Miss Cleasby's 4K News

News for the week of September 16th

Bear/Color Theme

*Thank you for your continued help in transitioning your child into the 4K routine! We are starting to settle into these routines and we are having fun doing it!

*This week we will continue with our "Bear" theme. I hope your child was able to retell the "Brown Bear, Brown Bear" story to you this past weekend using the pictures sent home last Friday! This week we will read and act out "Goldilocks and the Three Bears". See below for a video version of this classic story. We will also incorporate a short color theme later this week. We will be doing our second cooking project of the school year called "Rainbow Toast". Thanks to those who donated items for last week's project. Please e-mail if you would like to donate an item for this Thursday!

*Next week we will begin an "Apple" theme! We will be exploring apples in many different ways. We will also begin our first letter of the week "L" using our Jolly Phonics and Handwriting Without Tears curriculum!

Handwriting Without Tears

We are continuing to learn how to hold our crayon with a correct "tripod" grasp. We have learned a song called "The Crayon Song" which helps us "tell our fingers what to do". See the video below for an example of the crayon song. This week the students will be introduced to the wood pieces that will help us form letters.

Reminders

*Tomorrow (Monday, September 16th) is the last day to place a Scholastic book order this month. If you would like to place an order online you can go to www.scholastic.com/bookclubs and use the class activation code GP4G8.

*The students did a great job going to the library last Friday. Please remember to put a Deerfield Public Library card in the envelope taped inside of your child's folder each Friday if you would like them to check out a book. You are welcome to put the library book your child checked out back into their folder each week as we willing to return them for you on Fridays.

*If you ever would like to share the class photos in the newsletter with family members please use one of the following options rather than sharing the newsletter on Facebook:

1) Give them my class website at www.myteacherpages.com/webpages/rcleasby I typically post each week's newsletter on this website.

2) Right click on the photo and click save to desktop. Then you are able to attach the photo in an e-mail.
