Louis XIV was out to achieve an absolute monarch, but the nobles were his only obstacle and often didn't agree with the king. This meant Louis XIV had to deceive the nobles and keep them busy so he could impose his will.
Characteristics-
-The king spent hundreds of millions of today's dollars to build up the beautiful Palace Versailles.
-With his new grand palace he required the nobles to live in the palace and distracted them with "court life" so he would have little opposition.
Significance-
King Louis XIV used the palace Versailles as a tool to strength his monarch and the power of France. With the nobles busy King Louis XIV was able to wage wars and expand and secure boundaries. His reign also greatly reduced uprisings, because the public craved structure after the dark ages.
