Wheaton College Football Day on Monday, October 17th

The Wheaton College Football team players will be visiting Hawthorne students on Monday. Students will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities and drills. This event will NOT occur during the students' PE time. The schedule is as follows:

9:30AM – 10:25AM … Both 5th Grade classes

10:35AM – 11:30AM … Mrs. Harrison-Hamel, Mrs. Moritz, Mr. Bork

1:05PM – 2:00PM …Mrs. Jensen, Mrs. Schubert, and both 2nd grade classes

2:05PM – 3:00PM … All Kindergarten and 1st grade classes

Make A Difference Day

In honor of Make a Difference Day, Hawthorne School will be doing a collection all week for families in need. Collection bins will be outside classrooms, so please send items to school with students. Here are the items we will be collecting each day:

Monday, October 17:

Halloween costumes (new or gently used) for children, sizes 6-12 (Small-XL)

Tuesday, October 18:

Canned food for the People's Resource Center

Wednesday, October 19:

Winter clothes for Hawthorne students in need

(jackets, waterproof gloves, hats, snow pants, boots)

Thursday, October 20:

Packages for Haiti (see flyer for specifics)

Friday, October 21:

Water for Flint, Michigan (see flyer for specifics)

Parent-Teacher Conferences on October 18th and 20th

Don't forget....parent/teacher conferences are next week on Tuesday, October 18th and Thursday, October 20th. The book fair will also be open on these nights.

CUSD 200 Elementary Testing for the Program of Accelerated Curriculum and Enrichment (PACE)

In March 2017, the PACE Office will host testing for 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students. This testing will qualify elementary students for participation in one of the following 2017-2018 classes:

3rd, 4th and 5th grade PACE Mathematics

3rd, 4th and 5th grade PACE Reading

6th grade Fast Paced Mathematics

6th grade Fast Paced Language Arts


Please Note – Students currently in PACE Program Classes do not need to re-test for 2017-2018


Students may be recommended for testing by their Teacher and/or Parent.

The deadline for a Parent to request PACE Testing is Friday, January 13, 2017.

Students currently attending a private school and/or home schooled, but reside in the

District 200 Attendance Area, are also eligible for PACE Program Testing.


Testing will take place at each elementary school around the first or second week of March, scheduled around mandatory PARCC testing. Parents who register their students by the Friday, January 13, 2017 deadline will be notified by mail about specific testing dates & times prior to testing.

Box Tops: The Challenge Continues!

The next BoxTop Challenge deadline will be Monday, October 24th! The class bringing in the most BoxTops since the last challenge will win a popcorn party and 100+ bonus BoxTops (the unmarked BoxTops in the office collection bin)! Please send in any unexpired BoxTops in a baggie or envelope marked with your child's name and classroom. Don't forget to ask family, neighbors and friends to collect for you! The year-end grand prize for the class collecting the most BoxTops will be the opportunity to silly string Mrs. Moran at Field Day!! The Book Fair is next week!
Book Fair is quickly approaching! We need lots of helpers to help make this year’s Book Fair run smoothly. We especially need volunteers for Student Preview Day on Monday, October 17th.

Here is the schedule for the week:

Monday, October 17th 9am – 4pm Student Preview Day

Tuesday, October 18th 1pm – 8pm Book Fair Open During Parent Teacher Conferences

Wednesday, October 19th 1pm – 4pm

Snacks Needed for Homework Club

School has started and so has Homework club! We are looking for healthy, non-perishable, and nut-free snack donations for our students who participate in homework club on Thursdays after school. Wanted: Donations

Trivia Night is coming 2/4/17 and the Hawthorne PTA needs your help. Do you or a family member work at or own a business that would be willing to donate a product or service to our silent auction? Do you or someone you know have a summer home/lake house or timeshare that you would be willing to donate a weekend or week at? Are you a member of a golf club and could donate a foursome golf package? Do you have any extra tickets to any sporting events that you were not going to use or you just want to donate for a good cause? We are in need of auction items to help ensure that this is event is a success. All donations are fully tax deductible. LLC Needs Volunteers!

Our Library Learning Center is very fortunate to have the help of parent volunteers. Volunteers help us provide a stronger library program for Hawthorne students. Ms. Young is still looking for help in the library on a couple of days. If you are able to help on Wednesday mornings or every other Thursday morning, please contact her at ashley.young@cusd200.org.

Halloween at Hawthorne

Monday, Oct. 31st, 1:30pm

Hawthorne School

Students are welcome to participate in Halloween on Monday, October 31st. Kindergarten students may wear their costumes to school. Students in grades 1-5 should bring their costume to school to change into, or, go home during lunch to change. The parade will be outside at 1:30p.m. around the field (or in the gym if it rains). Classroom parties will be 2:00-3:00p.m. Only pre-arranged volunteers will be allowed to participate in the classroom parties. However, all parents are welcome to watch the parade at 1:30p.m. No candy or food will be allowed to be shared. Rather, our PTA room parents have arranged for snacks for students to have during the Halloween party.
