It was wonderful to see some smiling faces around Chestnut. What a welcome change. We had a full week of learning and our last conference night of the year. Time is flying by!

Celebrating Dr. Seuss

Lunch this week were filled with choices that gave a nod to the prolific author of children's books. On Wednesday, in a nod to One Fish, Two Fish, Blue Fish, students could choose chicken nuggets shaped like fish and for dessert, gummy fish swimming in blue jello.

Shoe Tying Continues!

We love that the third graders are stepping up and being the shoe tying experts for the younger students!

Future engineers finished their roller coaster

Students in Grade 4 combined their mental energies to build a giant roller coaster using Kinex pieces with minimal instructions. It was a colossal effort of team work and ingenuity to finish this masterpiece. A special thanks to Catalyst Ministries, Neal Nelson, for being the project manager of this task.

Guest Announcer

Our guest speaker this week was Nia! Nia has four siblings. Two live in New Jersey and two live in Ohio. She is looking forward to getting good grades in Middle school to prepare her for high school. She cares about her education because she wants to be a veterinarian one day - she loves all animals. For fun, Nia likes to run long distance and hopes to compete in cross-country racing in Middle and High School and college.

COME BE A VOLUNTEER READING BUDDY - All languages and ages welcome!

WE NEED VOLUNTEERS FOR WEDNESDAY at 12:35 pm and WEDNESDAY at 1:20 pm.


If you love books and kids and have some free time, we would invite you to join our Reading Buddy program. 'Reading Buddies' combine two things we value at Chestnut, literacy and relationships. Our goal with this program is to create the same sort of cozy feeling of reading with your grandparent or favorite aunt or uncle.


During students library time, we would like volunteers to come and read one on one with students. We have lots of books to choose from or you could share your own books. You can volunteer for as little as 40 minutes per week or more if you like. You may come once a week or several days per week. Both Spanish or English speaking readers are welcome.
