What the Act said
- reduce the surplus of British East India Company tea
- convince the colonists to purchase Company tea, thus agreeing to British taxation
- allowed company to ship directly to North America

- Colonists recognized the acts implications, and mobilized opposition to the distribution of English tea
- Company workers were harassed, many successful efforts to prevent the tea from landing
- this resistance led up to the Boston Tea Party on Dec 16, 1773
