Math Workshop
Our mathematicians are learning how to use data to make both pictographs and bar graphs. We are now learning how to use information from the graph to answer simple put together, take away and compare questions. We will also be learning to identify coins next week. This will be a useful skill for our money unit coming up next month.
We have also been working hard on practicing "math talk." Students are encouraged to discuss math by using sentences such as:
* I agree because......
* I respectfully disagree because....
* Can you explain to me more about....
* I used to think..... but now I thinking ......
* How did you.....
*What if we try.....

How do we discover new ideas?
The first book we read, "11 Experiments That Failed", helped us understand more about how to and how NOT to conduct science experiments. The main character tries to conduct 11 hilarious experiments. Some of her experiments include: Can a kid make it through the winter eating only snow and ketchup? Is there a way to make stinky cheese smell better? Can a washing machine wash dishes? Can a piece of bologna fly like a frisbee?
