Book Swap - May 31st

We will be hosting a Book Swap in the library on Tuesday, May 31st. Notes will go home with students next week and we will be collecting books in the library the week of May 23rd -27th. Students, families and staff are invited to donate books for the swap. ALL students will be allowed to take home a "new to them" book to read over the summer. Leftover swap books will be used for our Little Free Library and donated to the Parents 4 Learning summer swaps.

Teachers - please sign up for a time to visit the book swap with your class.

Chippewa Falls Public Library Visit

Staff from the children's department at the CFPL will be at Southview on June 1st. They will be presenting to grade levels about their summer library program. The schedule is in the Monday Message and below.

June 1st

12:00-12:15 (K & 3rd)

12:20-12:35 (1st & 4th)

12:45-1:00 (2nd & 5th)

Library Skills

This month in library skills we will be working on:

Kindergarten: Makerspace and Centers

1st grade: Makerspace and Centers

2nd grade: Makerspace and Centers, Rube Goldberg Machine clip

3rd grade: Lego StoryStarters, Caine's Arcade - What Would You Do if You Were Not Afraid?

4th grade: MyQuest and Robotics/Coding/Makerspace stations

5th grade: Finish Technology Assessment and Robotics/Coding/Makerspace stations

We have worked hard to fulfill the material requests from this year and were able to purchase most of the items requested. If you are looking for an item that you requested, please feel free to ask Ashley or Loretta. If you can't find it in the catalog it is likely out of print or an exorbitant cost. You can continue to request items through this year and over the summer for purchase in the fall. Items can be added using the Material Request Form, email, or the pink half sheets.

Little Free Library

We collaborated with Mrs. Manor and art club to start a Little Free Library at Southview. It will be going out in front near the playground. We have the library ready and books to start it up - just waiting for the digging. We'll keep you posted on the start date for this awesome community project!

Summer Learning Challenge

We will again be providing materials for a summer learning challenge. The challenge will focus more on summer learning rather than summer reading and we will not be using the Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge. It's still in the works but you can look for information from Jen, Karen, and I in the near future.
