# Chugga Chugga Choo Choo

## Monster Glyph

We had fun creating monster glyphs by answering questions. Each monster is individual to each child's responses. The best part is evaluating the data. As a group, we practice counting, adding, comparing. Common core math objectives include:

• using addition and subtraction to solve word problems
• solving word problems that call for addition of 3 whole numbers
• relating counting to addition and subtraction
• adding and subtracting within 20 demonstration fluency
• greater than/less than

## Morning calendar

Our calendar time is rich in math objectives. This gives us daily practice as a whole group and individually with numbers. In addition to the number line (that we add to each day) and the 120s chart (that we identify how many days), we use other visual and resources to practice math skills. Objectives covered include:

• use addition and subtraction with 20 to solve word problems
• solving word problems that call for addition of 3 whole numbers
• apply properties of operations
• understand subtraction is an unknown addend problem
• relate counting to addition and subtraction
• fact fluency
• tens and ones
• greater than/less than
• one more/one less, ten more/ten less
• organize and represent, and interpret data
