The Siegrist Star
Week of April 11, 2022
Happy Friday Siegrist Family!!
This week was a great week to be a Siegrist Pirate! Our PE department was awarded a grant focused on lifetime activities from the Outdoors Tomorrow Foundation. Siegrist 3rd through 5th graders had the opportunity to be exposed to the outdoor pursuit of camping during PE class! This week, students participating in this activity:
● learned about current camping styles
● developed a checklist of camping equipment
● learned fire safety
● learned how to build a tepee campfire
● observed how to light a campfire
● learned how to play camp games
In preparation for this learning, the PE department secured a connection with a Platte City Fire Fighter to be present during the lighting of the campfire. Coach Crawford demonstrated how to use flint and steel and proper kindling to start this type of campfire in a fire pit. We are so lucky to have such supportive and innovative teachers that think of new ways to bring real world experiences to our students. Thank you Coach Crawford!
This week we also welcomed Dr. Mike Brown and Mrs. Laura Hulett to Siegrist. During their visit they hosted students, from Kindergarten through 5th Grade, in student focus groups. These groups provided feedback on what they like about their school and ways we can improve as a school community. Their feedback has already provided us ideas for what we can do to get better and ways we can improve.
Best,
Mrs. Johna-Kaye Sutton

REMINDER: Inclement Weather Day Make Up Plan
In an effort to not push the school year past the Memorial Day holiday, and to not interfere with the summer school schedule, the Board of Education was presented a plan to address our inclement weather and makeup days. A summary of inclement weather days and how we will address the days missed can be found below.
Inclement weather days:
- February 2 (to be made up on May 26)
- February 17 (to be made up on May 27 - This will be a 3-Hour Early Dismissal)
- February 18 District Inservice (Staff will make up on April 15; this will be a No School Day for students)
- March 7 (can be waived with Board approval as we have an extra time built into our academic calendar)
- March 10 (Inclement Weather Virtual Learning - no make up needed)
- March 11 (Inclement Weather Virtual Learning - no make up needed)

Reminders Before Visiting:
Please sign up prior to arriving at school.
Bring a state-issued ID to sign in.
Visitors must be listed on the student’s SIS K-12 account or parent permission must be received at the office prior to the visit.
Verify your student’s lunch time before arrival.
Please keep in mind that we have limited seating for visitors. Because of limited space, only two adult visitors will be able to join the student for lunch.
Lunch visitors will need to bring their own lunch with them. Lunch will not be available, for visitors, to purchase in the cafeteria.
Due to the need for protecting the learning environment and need to have a flexible schedule, we will not host lunch visitors on MAP testing days.
Parents who show up for lunch without signing up will be added if there is an open spot, but denied if not. The lunch can be passed on to the student, and the office can help the parent sign up for a future date.

We are looking forward to a great 4th Quarter at Siegrist. We are excited to welcome lunch visitors and thank you for your understanding and support.
All the best,
Mrs. Johna-Kaye Sutton
Wear Purple on April 14!
Siegrist Olympic Field Day shirts are now on sale for $10
You can send cash or a check made payable to PCR3 before April 28. If you would like to donate $10 to purchase for another student that option is also on the order form. It is our goal for everyone to have a field day shirt so classes can look unified and students can sign names on the back of the shirts. The front of the shirt was designed by a Siegrist fourth grader. Please know that each grade level will be wearing a different Olympic ring color. (We added the color white to have 6 colors). If you have any questions or need another order form please feel free to email us.

Field Day Volunteers Needed!
Field Day is coming up on May 23rd! We need volunteers in order for this day to run smoothly! If you are able to help, please sign up using the link provided. Once all our limited slots are filled we will close down sign-ups. We will not be having spectators this year. For those who may not know, students rotate through many different activity stations with an Olympic theme. Students will be familiar with all activities. You will be asked to go over your assigned activity and facilitate the game. Field Day will be located on the grass practice fields behind Siegrist. If you would like to help, please fill out this google form. Thanks in advance for helping make this a great day for our students.
*Lunch will be provided to volunteers
