THE ORION GAZETTE

A BIG THANK YOU NOTE
Dear Orion Families,
However, I should not be the only one feeling this special Orion love and joy! I hope that amidst all of the work and emotions embedded in our transition process that you each find a way to focus on the precious moments we get to share with each other in the upcoming 5 months! We all need to remember to CELEBRATE and to allow ourselves to feel the love and joy that is ever present in our special community!
With much love and gratitude,
Principal Julie
NEWS FROM OUR TEACHERS
With Orion's transition, we are all anxious to learn next year's plans for all of our teachers. Our amazing teachers are equally as anxious. Our teachers each have individual work/personal situations as well as unique decision making styles that will impact not only their decisions but the timing of those decisions.
As of today, Teachers Jen & Kristina, Teacher Dana, Teacher Julie and Teacher Stephanie all plan to remain at Orion next year and that is wonderful news!
As soon as our other amazing teachers have decided what their plans will be, they will let our community know. I know it is difficult to await more teacher news, but I would ask that we all give our teachers the gift of the time and space they need to make their personal decisions. Thank you!!
TRANSITION UPDATE
The transition of the Orion Alternative Parent Participation Program to the Gill campus for the 2019-2020 school year is underway. There is much to be done but thankfully we have time do it!
There are many things we are all anxious to see happen in this process. Principal Rivera, myself, District Leaders and Parent Leaders from both school sites will be working together to provide a smooth transition for both the Gill and Orion communities. I will keep you all updated on our progress.
Please note the following important next steps in the transition process:
1) The two (2) remaining Kinder Information events will be held this week at Orion.
2) In February, the leadership from each site (Principals, SSC Teams and PTO Groups) will begin meeting with school transition facilitators from the San Mateo County Office of Education. (Dates and times TBD)
3) In early March, Principal Rivera will host both a weekend tour and a weekday evening tour for our current Orion families to tour the Gill campus. (Date and time TBD).
4) In the spring, events will be scheduled for our kiddos and families to visit the Gill campus and have some fun with the Gill community. (Dates and times TBD)

GATE REFERRAL PROCESS
RCSD offers a Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) pull out program for 4th, 5th & 6th graders
located at Clifford and Hoover Schools. If you would like your child in current grades 3/4/5 tested for GATE this Spring, you can read more information about the GATE program on the Parent Information website.
Parents must complete a permission form for their student to be tested. At the end of the survey, please check that you have seen the "Thank you for your survey" results page. If you do not see this page, then please go back and complete the survey again until you see this page. This confirms you have submitted the permission form accurately.
