Ellen Ochoa Elementary
Learn, Lead and Light the Way--A Leader in Me School
Week of Monday, September 12th
ATTENDANCE MATTERS
Ellen Ochoa Families,
During student-led goal-setting conferences the week of Sept. 19th, your family will set an attendance goal for your student. Please take a moment to review the documents below describing the impact attendance can have on student learning. Ellen Ochoa leaders will individually track their attendance as well as the classroom and school.
Research is evident when students miss school days; it impacts student learning. Chronic absence is defined as missing 10 percent (18 days) or more of school for any reason. Chronic absenteeism translates into students having difficulty learning to read by the third grade, achieving in middle school, and graduating high school.
We look forward to seeing you the week of Sept. 19th for student-led conferences.
STUDENT LED FAMILY GOAL SETTING CONFERENCES-Sept. 20th and 22nd
Dear Families,
We look forward to meeting with you and your child at our goal-setting conferences on Thursday, September 20th or September 22nd. This conference will provide an opportunity for you and your child to work together with the classroom teacher to set long-range and short-term goals for the school year.
Literacy growth and attendance will be the primary focus of this goal-setting meeting. Together, you will discuss and select a literacy goal. The meetings will be 15 minutes long and meetings are scheduled back to back. Please contact your student's teacher if you have not schedule a time. A home visit can be arranged if you are not able to attend.
PTA meeting September 14 @5:30pm
Join the PTA!
Have you ever thought about joining the PTA? By joining the PTA this gives you the opportunity to be active with school events. We understand that working parents may not be able to get off work as much as you want but, we would still love to have you a part of our family and to give us your opinion and ideas with upcoming events! The PTA fee is $7.00 for the whole school year. Our goal this year is to build up our PTA so we are able to give our students, our amazing teachers and staff a wonderful school year!

HABIT 1 - BE PROACTIVE
You’re in Charge-The Habit of Choice
I’m in Charge of Me
I am in charge of my life. I am responsible for my choices and behaviors. I can choose how I react to other people or situations.
Steps to Taking Control of You
1. Pause: Stop what you are doing and pause.
2. Think: Think about what you should or shouldn’t do.
3. Choose: Choose the best thing to do.
COMMON LANGUAGE
Proactive
Circle of control
Pause
Family Activity
Using the “Circle of Control” below, take turns discussing different things you can and cannot control. For example, you can control how you respond to problems. You cannot control the weather. You can control the words you say. You cannot control what others may say.
What is one thing about yourself you would like to have more control over?
Pause: What is one thing you can do to pause and take control of you?
Think: What is one thing you should or shouldn’t do to take control of you?
Choose: What will you choose to do to take control of you?
REMINDERS
We continue to request that families do not use their cell phones to text or call once they enter the parking lot of all three loops. Signs will be posted in the next month as a friendly reminder.
