What is Digital Citizenship?
The internet is practically everybody's life. Everybody has accounts for multiple services and has information about themselves on all of them. But is it safe? Well Digital Citizenship is a lot of different things and topics of how you need to act on the internet. These rules help everybody understand what you should and shouldn't do and what you can and cannot do on the internet and how you should treat people on the internet. Digital Citizenship is important because, if you don't follow these rules, you can get in a lot of trouble and you can ruin your career for your future.
Rule #1: Digital Etiquette
Rule: Think before you post!
When you are on the internet you need to be careful that what you say is something that you would say to someone in person. Be cautious when you comment something sarcastic to make sure that anyone wouldn't take it the wrong way. Always think before you post and be kind on the internet.
Rule #2: Information Privacy
When you are on a website you need to be careful for things that just want your information for bad. Once you give people your information they can hack you and spam you and that is why you shouldn't give just any website or just anyone your information.
Rule #3: Social Networking
If you put things on the internet that don't show who you are and how you don't want to be seen then do not post it. If people are wanting to hire you and see something on your account they don't like about you they will not hire you. If strangers you do not know try to befriend you I suggest not following them back or talking to them. That is why you only put things that show who you are on the internet not things that show the opposite.
Rule #4: Online Safety
If you give someone any of your information especially people you don't know, they could use it against you. And some people on the internet pretend to be someone they're not so be careful and never give anyone your information.
Rule #5: Cyberbullying
You need to always check what you are sending to someone before you send it just to make sure that it doesn't seem rude. If you are cyberbullying someone on purpose, try to remember that the person you are harassing has feelings just like you. And if someone is cyber bullying you, tell an adult they can always help.
Rule #6: Plagiarism
A rule you need to remember is to never copy word for word from something. If you do this you can get arrested and sent to jail because you are stealing someone's work and that is illegal. If you are copying then you need to put quotations and state the source you acquired it from.
Rule #7: Copyright
When something is copyrighted it is someone's creation and nobody can use it unless they have permission to do so. If you steal or use someone's creation or work without permission, you could go to jail or get in lots of trouble like being sued. That's why you have to be very careful when using any person's work. Make sure you can legally use it!
