A message from the Principal - Mrs. Bookman
To our Suffield Family,
Today we celebrated many students at our monthly Celebration Day Assembly. Teachers recognized students for various accomplishments seen throughout the school day. Students are also invited to fill out a celebration day form from the office so that we can celebrate things worth celebrating that we may not know about! Has your child learned something new, done something special at home, or accomplished a goal that you have been working on at home? Remind them that they can celebrate this by completing a celebration day form that is in the office. Nothing is too small, so please encourage your children to do so! We have so much to celebrate about the wonderful students at Suffield!
Have a great weekend, and please stay warm tonight!

Let's Celebrate You!
Students can ask their teacher or the office staff for a red Celebration Slip. Students can share what they have to celebrate by filling out the slip and turning it into the Celebration Box in the office. Mrs. Bookman will choose a few "Celebrations" to share at our Celebration Assemblies that we have quarterly. Examples could be, meeting a goal (inside or outside of school), a sports team or club celebration, helping/volunteering in the community, or learning something new! We want to celebrate you!
Counselor's Corner - A Note From Miss Livers
Anxiety, there are many different things the parents and guardians can do to help their child when they are feeling anxious. Your student is not alone, childhood anxiety has been becoming more common with over 4.4 million children from ages 3-17 being diagnosed with anxiety. Here are some things you can do to support your child when they are feeling anxious:
· Remind your child that their feelings are valid and okay. Give them time and space to share how they feel without judgment.
· Set a time each day/week to talk about their worries.
· Help your child focus on what they can control.
Help your child develop ways to cope with and manage their anxiety, such as:
· Deep breathing
· Talking to you or another adult
· Journaling or drawing
· Focusing on what they can control
· Using positive self-talk
· Exercising

Birthday Treats
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) recently came out with guidelines and a list of healthy foods that schools are being asked to serve in place of cookies, candy, and other less healthy foods. Schools are encouraged to follow these guidelines, not only with food being sold but with any food being brought into the school. You are strongly encouraged to send in healthy snacks for birthday treats and/or holiday parties when requested.
At this time, we will allow Birthday Treats to be brought to school. We are required to inform you of the Healthy Eating Guidelines (see below) and suggest that you use this when selecting a treat. Whatever you choose, please note that all treats brought to school for the purpose of sharing with others, need to be prepackaged so we are able to know and see the ingredients list. There are many students who have a variety of food allergies and having the ingredients listed helps the school nurse determine if a student with allergies can eat a particular treat.
Student Medications
If you have medications that you need to have at school for your child, DO NOT send them to school with your child on the bus. Please bring them to school. The office is open from 8:00 am-4:00 pm. Please call the school if you have questions.
Buy your pencils and notebooks at school
Just a reminder that your child can purchase pencils, gel pens, and notebook pads at school! These are fun designs for the kids! The pencil/pen/notebook machines are located by the recess door.
Prices are:
Pencils - $.25
Gel Pens - $.50
Notebooks - $.75

Suffield Elementary will now take part in recycling markers that no longer work. It’s a super easy project to help our environment! You can send in any brand of markers, sharpies, dry erase, and highlighters. Once we collect the markers, they will be shipped to a facility that repurposes them to keep them out of landfills.

Grading Scale Changes for Kdgn - 3rd Grade
This year we have changed our grading scale for Kindergarten through third grade. You may have noticed those changes if you looked in Progress Book at your child’s grades. We changed the +, -, and = to ME (Meets Expectations), P (Progressing), and NI (Needs Improvement). Below is a flier explaining what the scale means in more detail.
