CONGRATULATIONS Math Bowl Team!
CONGRATULATIONS to our 4th grade Math Bowl Team for placing 4th out of the 12 HSE elementary schools, and 8th in the State of Indiana! Thank you to all of the students for their hard work, and to Mrs. Nation for leading the team!
PENNIES for PATIENTS
The 4th Grade Student Council is joining forces with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society for their annual campaign - PENNIES FOR PATIENTS. By participating, FCE students will learn not only about the difference they can make, but learn about leadership, teamwork, and what "doing good" for others can mean. We will work with LLS to raise money in honor of Indiana blood cancer patients and survivors. Funds raised support life-saving blood cancer research and provide aid to local patients and their families. Every 3 minutes a child (under age 20) is diagnosed with cancer. Let's do our part to help with this very worthwhile campaign. Send your pennies (or any cash donation) to school between Wednesday, March 1- Friday, March 10. Donations will be collected in individual classrooms. The classroom that collects the most money earns a Pizza Party! Let's top last year's total of $4,680!

ARTSONIA is virtual student art museum. Artsonia manages school art galleries in a safe and educational way. Please use your child's Artsonia permission slip to access a world of creativity! With Artsonia you can... upload art, add family to your child's fab club, give feedback, and purchase keepsake items. The purpose of this digital portfolio program is to track your artist's creative growth and keep a collective virtual bank of their creations over time. This is not intended to be a primary fundraising program. However, any money generated through Artsonia keepsake purchases will help provide art supplies for our artists. Thank you for your support. Anyone wishing to volunteer in the school must have a SafeVisitor ID Badge. Please note this policy also applies to anyone wishing to join students for lunch. Simply follow the quick link on our FCE website to apply for a background check. This process takes 5-7 days.
TRANSPORTATION CHANGES MADE DURING THE DAY
Parents, please be aware of our policy regarding a transportation change that occurs during the school day. All telephone calls must be received by 2:00PM. This is to allow enough time to accurately deliver messages to teachers, as well as time to confirm the change if necessary. Please do not call the school after 2:00PM to make a transportation change except in the case of extreme emergencies. Thank you!

AFTER SCHOOL CLUBS
Thank you to everyone involved with the after school clubs. Wednesday was the first of 4 dates and the kids seemed to have a great time! Your patience during pick-up is appreciated as we have 400 students participating. The first week always takes longer. This year we have significantly more kids participating in clubs and many families new to clubs and the car rider pick-up system. We are working to continuously improve pick-up and its efficiency. We would love your help by: talking with your child about getting to their location (gym or front doors based on last name as escorted by a volunteer - unless volunteer kid, YMCA care or other arrangements have been previously made and communicated), finding and sitting by the letter that is the first letter of their LAST name and most importantly sitting quietly and actively listening for their name. The key to a quick and smooth dismissal is the kids being able to hear their names. :) If all cars picking up kids could have the names of all kids being picked up clearly posted in their windshield that really helps too. Thanks again to students, parents and especially volunteers! We look forward to another great day on Wednesday.
SPRING FLING NEEDS YOUR HELP!
FCE’s Spring Fling is May 5 this year and we are starting to plan this event! In case you didn’t know, Spring Fling is a carnival style event where students play various games and have a ton of fun! It is our biggest fundraiser, so it takes a lot of volunteers. We have openings for Admissions Chair, Decorations chair, Marketing Chair and Head Co-Chair. We have evening meetings once a month usually at Murphy’s…that’s where we do our best thinking! You will have guidance and support from the other committee members. If interested in learning more about any of these positions, please contact Carl Chan at firstname.lastname@example.org.
