The New Guy's Observations: Part 2
East Family,
Our first parent coffee resulted in some outstanding feedback. Our parents expressed appreciation for the effort of our teachers, and also acknowledge there are areas they would like to see improved at East. As I continue my parent coffees I would encourage parents to please join me and share your feedback. The parent/school partnership is imperative for student success! One way you can partner with the school is by support the PTC
Not only did my first parent meeting result in good feedback, but my student leader meetings provided me with an amazing amount of insight. There is no doubt middle school kids will "tell it like it is!" Some of the key takeaways thus far are:
- They really like their teachers and the fun things they do in their classes.
- They enjoy being around their friends.
- Extra-curricular activities, sports, clubs and other afterschool events are a huge incentive for many of our students.
- Student behavior during passing period has room for improvement.
- Making sure rules are consistent is important to them.
- East is a great school!
These kids really gave outstanding and thoughtful answers. This along with the parent's input is so valuable as I continue observing the great things that happen at East. I hope I can utilize this information to improve and help us become one of the best middle schools in the state of Indiana! Thank you for your support!
Sincerely,
Matt Vandermark

ISSMA Vocal/Piano Solo & Ensemble
Congratulations to the nearly 130 FTMS East singers and pianists who participated in the ISSMA Vocal/Piano Solo & Ensemble Contest this past Saturday! Despite missing many ensemble members due to illness and despite coming across some very tough judges, East singers and pianists battled through to earn 14 Gold Ratings and 2 Silver Ratings. Mrs. Clifford and Mrs. Knapp are very proud of your performances and results. [Please check outside the choir room later this week for a full list of participants and results. It's a long list, but we can provide it if you want.] Fantastic work, everyone!

Spring Sports at East and West are on the cusp.
Monday March 5 will begin tryouts for boys and girls Track and Field, baseball, and softball. Callout meetings will occur later during February and will be officially announced soon. A valid IHSAA athletic physical must be on file with the athletic department in order to participate. Thank you to all of our West parents of basketball and East/West parents of wrestling for keeping the Door 9 parking lot clear when picking up your student athlete from practice!
