Muskego Lakes Family Newsletter
October 15th, 2021
Muskego Lakes Associate Principal
Muskego Lakes Principal
Dear Muskego Lakes Families,
Aligned to our school vision of connecting hearts and minds, we work really hard at Muskego Lakes to prevent, detect, and intervene anytime students demonstrate rude, mean, or bullying behaviors.
And, we see it as not only our responsibility as staff but also students' responsibility to maintain a school culture where all students are accepted.
Since October is Bullying Prevention Month, we wanted to let you know about the systems we have in place to prevent rude/mean/bullying behaviors here at school.
School Wide Positive Behavior Intervention System (PBIS) Matrix in every classroom and student space at MLMS.
Positive Behavior Intervention System (PBIS) Cool Tools so all students learn PBIS expectations at MLMS.
All students complete self-rater of their proficiency on respect, integrity, determination, and engagement (PBIS pillars) on their learner profiles.
Students learn the difference between rude/mean/bullying every year.
Team-created supervision plans for hallways and lockers to detect rude/mean/bullying behaviors.
Rude, mean, & bullying reporting forms that 100% of students submit in homerooms once a month to notify principals of any rude/mean/bullying behaviors they witness or experience at MLMS.
GoGuardian software to monitor student communication on school issued devices.
All partners/groups assigned at Muskego Lakes versus students selecting peers.
80+ cameras around MLMS so principals can review footage.
Weekly lunch/recess supervision meetings to brainstorm and adjust based on patterns of student behaviors.
Ongoing anonymous reporting form accessible in student newsletter, family newsletter, & on the MLMS website for anyone to report rude/mean/bullying behavior anytime day or night.
PBIS Cool Tools created for homerooms anytime patterns of rude/mean/bullying behavior arise throughout the school year.
School wide rude/mean/bullying tracker so principals can carefully monitor patterns throughout the school year (and across students four years at MLMS).
While we are proud of the many systems and processes we have in place at MLMS to prevent rude, mean, and bullying behavior- we take any incidents reported as an opportunity to come alongside students to help them understand others' perspectives, navigate conflict resolution, advocate for themselves, and restore relationships.
Thanks for partnering with us by reaching out anytime you have a concern related to rude, mean, or bullying behavior. The sooner we know about it, the sooner we can intervene. Every student deserves to come to school and feel accepted, so we take this responsibility very seriously. We know that sometimes it can be hard for middle school students to want to tell a trusted adult what they are experiencing, but please know we are trained to navigate these situations with confidentiality and to preserve students' dignity.
With love,
Rachel Rydzewski & Nancy Pasch

PreACT provides:
Early indication of progress and ideas for improvement—PreACT gives students an estimated ACT test score and can be used as an indicator of college and career readiness.
Fast, robust reporting—Reports are ready quickly, so teachers and students can get to work turning PreACT insights into action. Reports include a predicted score in all tested areas (Math, Science, STEM, English, and Reading), an overall composite score, and an item response analysis.
Career Map showing 26 career areas that are matched to students’ interests and predicted ACT score.
Assignment Notebooks Expectations and Replacements
A school-wide expectation this year is that all students have and use an assignment notebook. This expectation is to model and help students with organization, planning & prioritizing, and task completion.
Students were issued an assignment notebook at the start of school. If a student forgets their assignment notebook one day, don't worry; a staff member will provide a paper copy to use. However, if a student loses their assignment notebook, they will need to purchase a new one. New assignment notebooks are available in the main office to be purchased for $5.00.

Webinar Subscription -
We are so excited to share with you that we have received a grant from Waukesha County Health and Human Services that will allow schools in Waukesha County access to our ever so popular substance abuse and mental health webinars at NO COST for all your parents in the school district. Parents will receive exclusive access to over 30 webinars on the topics of anxiety, depression, suicide, substance abuse, vaping and much more that they can watch on their own time and in the comfort of their own home.
Here is how it works – you share with parents that this service is now available to them for the 2021-2022 school year. Then parents register by
1. Going to https://www.yourchoiceprevention.org/webinars-members-school,
2. Clicking “join”
3. Create an account and enter code MUSWEB21-22 to remove the fee.
Then they can access these webinars whenever they wish. A flyer that you can share with parents is attached.
With busy schedules, and COVID-19 cases on the rise, it’s hard to hold in-person events. These webinars are a great way for parents to have information available whenever it’s most convenient for them.
