The Periodic Table
Mercury
Uses of the Element
Mercury is a fascinating element, part of the reason is thatit is the only element that is not a solid at room temperature and is therefore liquid. this property allows it to be used as fillings for a tooth and also the part that moves hen the temperature changes in a themometer. it can also be used for barometers, manometer, float valves and mercury switches. so the metal over all is a very helpful metal

Properties of Mercury
the properties of mercury at 20C are: density=13579 kg/m3, specific heat capacity=0.139 J/kg, thermal conductivity=8.69 W/m, kinematic viscosity=0.114 m2/s and prandtl number=0.025. Mercuries proton number (Atomic number) is 80 and the relative atomic mass is 201. the symbol of mercury, Hg, comes from the old latin word hydrargyrum and is also known as quicksilver.

How was the Periodic Table Arranged
nowerdays the periodic table is arranged, if you move from right to left in a row the properties gradually change but at the end of each row the is a vast change in chemical properties. in the origional periodic though the elements were arranged by alphabetical order so it was easier to find an element if you do not know the atomic number.
