Google Classroom Tips & Tricks
- There are 2 options when it comes to adding students to your Google Classroom: 1. You can "Invite" them to join by inputting their email addresses. OR 2. You can have them navigate to the Google Classroom site and put in the Class Code. I have found that using the "Class Code" method is the easiest.
- I like to set my classroom up so that only the teacher is allowed to post to the classroom "wall" or "stream". That way, you don't have to worry about students posting inappropriate statements or comments. To enable this feature in your Google Classroom, navigate to your classroom and under the "Students" tab choose "Only Teacher Can Post or Comment".
- When creating an assignment for students in Google Classroom, you have 3 options for sharing content from your Google Drive: 1. "Students Can View File" - which means students are only able to view the file & they can't change it in any way. 2. "Students Can Edit File" - which means students are able to edit & work on the same document. OR 3. "Make a Copy for Each Student" - which means the Classroom will make an individual copy of the file for each student that they will be able to edit.
- As of right now, Google Classroom doesn't offer any type of differentiation feature that enables you to send certain assignments to particular students. All students included in a classroom get the same assignment. In order to differentiate using Google Classroom, you will need to create a different "classroom" for each differentiated group and distribute assignments accordingly. However, making it easier to differentiate assignments within one classroom is a feature that Google is currently working on and they hope to provide this feature within the near future.
