A Message from Leadership
We also recognize this as the Month of Mary; honouring the Virgin Mary as "the Queen of May."
Please continue to reach out as needed and provide support for one another as best we can. Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with all families and staff.
Robert Stecyk and Kalay Dumont
Chaplain's Corner
Today is commonly known as “Good Shepherd Sunday”. It is also known as “Vocations Sunday”, a day when our Church prays especially for new shepherds and pastors to lead the Christian communities.
The image of God as the shepherd of his people has a long tradition in the history of God’s people. The image of the shepherd is one which appears several times in the New Testament. It is one that would be immediately understood by the people of the time.
The shepherd of the biblical Middle East had a much more intimate relationship with a much smaller flock. He knew each one individually and would notice immediately if even one was missing. Jesus’ parable of the Lost Sheep would have resonated perfectly with his hearers. The shepherd always walked in front of his sheep and they would follow him – and only him (“They know his voice”). The sheep hear, recognize and follow their shepherd’s voice. In a sheepfold where there are the sheep of many shepherds, the true shepherd knows which ones belong to him. Jesus is the true shepherd that we must long to hear and follow.
We celebrate this week of the Easter season by entering more deeply into the stories of the early followers of Jesus. All week in Acts, we will read of an increasing boldness by the disciples, and the beginning of Paul's ministry to the Gentiles. John's gospels continue to draw us into the image of Jesus as our shepherd, loving us with an individual tenderness. Jesus continues to tell us that he and the Father are one. Like his followers, we sometimes simply can't see it.
This month of May is also a month when we celebrate Mary which is focused within the Rosary. Take time this month to spend time with Mary praying the rosary. A time to meditate and become closer to one who advocates for us whispering in Jesus' ear to help those who are in need of His intercessions.
God Bless each of you during this time.

Moving Forward With Assessment - Information for Parents
As we continue to work towards a balance between assessment that has already been completed while students were at school and assessment of online/home learning, we wanted to share with you how teachers will be assessing their students for the remainder of the year.
Teachers will continue to choose outcomes from the curriculum which will connect to the work that your child is completing at home. They will provide feedback to students in order to support their growth.
In classes where teachers are using PowerSchool to record students' marks, the Gradebooks will be kept up to date. You can check this on a regular basis, as the marks will be visible to you. The marks will all be formative, which means that they will inform you and your child about their understanding of what they are learning, but will NOT influence their grade.
In classes where final exams were scheduled, the decision has been made to focus on the content that will prepare students for their upcoming school year, rather than a review of the current school year. Therefore, during the final week of school, teachers will forgo final exams and continue with regular instruction.
We hope that this helps to answer some questions you or your child may have had regarding their marks this year. If you have further questions, please email your child's teacher.

Service Delivery
Each school is staffed with a Family Wellness Worker (FWW), who works under the direction of their School Principal and the Assistant Superintendent of Faith & Wellness. FWW's receive clinical guidance from a Registered Psychologist.
The primary function of the Family Wellness team is to provide social and emotional support to students and families. Family Wellness Workers meet with students and parents to assess needs, set goals, identify required supports, and plan appropriate interventions.
They collaborate with school system staff and community resources to build a “village” of support around students/families who are struggling.
Referrals
Parental consent is required for FWW services.
Referrals to the Family Wellness Program may be made by students, parents/guardians, school administration, teachers, or other school staff (e.g. school counsellor or collaborative response coordinator).
Parents and guardians can access these services by speaking with the Principal or contacting the school's Family Wellness Worker directly.
