Mrs. Greene's 3rd Grade
April 20, 2018
A Great Week!
It was quite a week here at school! We were very busy adjusting our schedule due to ISTEP, taking the ISTEP test, writing fairy tales, wrapping up our science study of rocks and minerals, and making time for some fun with a few extra recesses. All-in-all we had a GREAT week!
The schedule for next week's ISTEP test is as follows:
- Tuesday, April 24: 12:35-2:00
- Wednesday, April 25: 12:35-2:00
- Thursday, April 26: 12:35-2:00
The staff at SRE is getting very excited for the Spring PTO STEAM Event which will take place Saturday, April 28. There is a link below (SRE Calendar) for more information about this fun event. Each grade level team is encouraged to donate an item or teacher time for the silent auction. This year the 3rd grade teaching team will be auctioning off a WALK ON THE MONON WITH YOUR DOG. Each class will have one student (highest bidder) that will meet the teachers at the Monon Trail for a walk to Bub's for some ice cream. Bringing your dog along is an added bonus! We can't wait for this fun event!
Some AMAZING things I saw this week in Room 9:
- During the Math part of ISTEP, Addi worked so hard checking and double-checking her work that she asked for THREE pieces of scrap paper instead of just the one that is given.
- Kaeleb came to school with a Post-It note on his desk from Mrs. Satkoski giving him a compliment about his hard work on ISTEP. It's a big deal when you get a note from the principal!
- Riya has asked to work at the back table with me during writing each day last week. She wants to make sure she is focused and moving forward in her work each day.
- The students are learning about how to use their, there, they're correctly. They were tasked with "teaching" this skill to the class with their team. Evangelin took her job seriously and even took some of her work home to make sure she was prepared for her lesson.
- Ethan was struggling with a math question on the ISTEP Test. I stood behind and watched him struggle. It was wonderful to see how he persevered through the difficulty and did not give up until he was sure he had the correct answer!
Looking forward to a GREAT week next week!
Enjoy your weekend...

Room 9 Debate Team - pictured below
The students prepared each day this week with their team. Today they presented their information and we had a lively debate. It was so much fun! As the rest of the class worked on their SSL projects, they had one ear tuned to the debate. I will prepare another question for students to ponder for next week. I am hopeful more students will want to join in!
