VIRTUAL CONFERENCES
October 7, 4-7pm
Due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases and the complexity of ensuring safety while hosting a large event indoors, Humboldt will be hosting our first parent teacher conferences on Thursday, October 7th virtually.
We recognize that conferences are an essential part of the school year. We will follow the same procedures as last year to sign up for the conferences. Please see the slides below for information and contacts. Monday October 4th we will be having help sessions if families need assistance signing up for conferences.

Black Student Union Inaugural Meeting
Next Wednesday, October 6, 2021, the Humbolt High School Black Student Union will hold an inaugural meeting at 8:30 AM at the Learning Stairs (second floor - next to the library). All students are welcome to attend as we discuss our Call to Action, Code of Conduct, and community/parent partnerships. We encourage all teachers to 'softly guide' all BIPOC students to this group for information about social and academic support.
Please read: "Ladies or Loudies?" (Edward W. Morris)
This article advances theories of intersectionality by showing how race and class shape perceptions of femininity for Black girls, and how the encouragement of more traditionally feminine behavior could ultimately limit their academic potential. Keywords: intersectionality; African American girls; educational discipline
The HHS Black Student Union CODE of CONDUCT
RESPECT-RIGOR-RESPONSIBILITY.
- We understand that Humbolt High School is a place of learning; we will do our best to be scholarly with rigor in our studies;
- We understand that as members of the HBSU, and BIPOC students, we do not put our hands on other HHS students in anger or frustration - words work;
- We understand that HHS administrators, social workers, and advisors are here to help us navigate our education, we will always be respectful and talk to them about issues we are concerned with;
- The HHS Black Student Union will collaborate with parents and local communities to take part in social and educational events the BSU participates in;
- We understand, ...and still, we rise.

Nurses Notes
We have been provided a wonderful opportunity to obtain free weekly COVID testing across the street at La Puerta Abierta UMC.This testing is open to staff, students, and community members. Unfortunately, it does not appear that SPPS will be providing weekly testing in schools at this time.This opportunity would not be a part our work day, but is easily accessible on your lunch time or after school. They are open from 2-5pm on Mondays.This would be an excellent option for those who choose to get tested weekly.
From Samuel Lopez at La Puerta Avierta UMC/Wellshare International:
"I am grateful for your partnership in removing barriers to Covid-19 saliva testing. My team and I are pleased to announce that we are launching our first weekly Covid testing on Monday October 4th between the hours of 2 pm to 5 pm. Testing is free of charge to students, staff and student families. I am attaching a flyer with all pertinent information. Testing will be available weekly on Mondays and there is the possibility of adding another day during week as demand and need may arise. We are thrilled to serve your community in this capacity."

Covid Safety and Procedures
We will begin using a new system to contact trace for covid. Students have been asked to sit at the same table daily so we can trace where they are if anyone becomes sick. At the start of the year we asked students to sign-in to a book on the table daily. It hasn't been met with the greatest enthusiasm so we will begin something new in the weeks to come.
Students will be reminded to bring their iPad or mobile device to lunch. With their device they will scan a QR code. The code will bring them to a form, four questions; Last name, Lunch number, Lunch period and Table number--SUBMIT. SIMPLE, RIGHT?! WE HOPE. It is our hope that students will understand the importance of this and participate daily. Teachers will work this week to introduce the code and show them what to do. We hope to make this fun and find ways for them to easily accomplish this very important safety procedure. Please talk to your child about this and ask that they sign-in daily. We want to keep all of our students safe and healthy so they may remain in school!
