The Comet Chronicle
Challenger Elementary Parent Newsletter December, 2018
Message from the Principal
What a great time of the year! It is exciting to see the joy and excitement in the faces of Challenger's students during the holiday season. Due to the busy nature of the season, sometimes schedules and added responsibilities can cause stress. Concerts, parties, family visits and so many other events seem to be packed into a limited amount of time. Scheduling becomes an issue and we always seem to be looking for ways to complete our to-do list.
Our upcoming music program, Winter Sharing, will offer the opportunity to slow down and enjoy a little holiday cheer. This vocal musical concert will take place on Tuesday, December 18th in the multi-purpose room. Check the schedule below for specific times. Please come; everyone is welcome!
As the holiday season approaches, please give your child the gift of extra time. Give them an I.O.U. for a special event or activity. When students are asked to write about a memorable event in their lives, it isn't a special gift they usually choose to write about, but a particular experience they have had with someone special.
During this season of the year we would like to say thanks to: Parents and guardians. We couldn't do this work without you. All the volunteers who give countless hours to make Challenger a better place for students and staff. The people in our district who are committed to giving their best to your children every day- custodians, cafeteria staff, bus drivers, school nurses, paraprofessionals, office staff, and teachers. And all of you who send your child ready to learn every day.
On behalf of the whole staff at Challenger, we hope you have a joyous holiday season and a prosperous New Year!

Winter Sharing Concert
Take a break from the holiday frenzy and spend some time listening to Challenger students perform holiday music. All of our students have been working hard to prepare and will participate in our Winter Sharing Concerts. The students will sing many songs that celebrate winter and the holidays around this time of year. Our two shows will take place on Tuesday, December 18, 2018 in the Multi-Purpose Room. Each grade will perform (see schedule below), and everyone is welcome to attend.
Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grades: 9:55-10:25 AM

Safety Vestibule
Our safety vestibule is officially up and running. The doors are unlocked during arrival and dismissal times for students to enter the building. During the school day, the only doors that are unlocked are the two front right doors leading into the vestibule. After you enter through the doors, you will be standing in a secure, dry, and warm space. Look for the signs to show you were to press the button. This will alert the office you are here and would like to enter the building. The office staff will ask you for identification, verify your identity, and remotely unlock the door for you to enter the main office to sign in or get the assistance you need.
