Third Grade News!
Week of February 8
Dear Crozet Families and Friends,
I hope you are having a great week, and finding chances to enjoy this beautiful change in weather. It looks like we're in for a little snow next week so please make sure you get your bread and milk and check your child's backpack for a few at home activities to work on!
In the Tuesday folder this week, you will find a special project called "The Griot Project," due February 19. Through our studies of Ancient Mali we have learned that griots were keepers of the past, who kept the history of the Ancient West African empire alive by passing it's stories and history from generation to generation. This project involves students collecting a story from an elder about their own past and creating an instrument to accompany their story. More details can be found on the project information sheet. Please let me know if you have any questions. These projects will be on display for the 2/3 performance on March 8. I look forward to seeing you all there!
This week in Content we are moving on to study force, motion, energy and simple machines! Throughout this unit students will learn more about how to use 6 simple machines to make work easier. There will be an exciting in class culminating project where students will apply what they have learned to create an invention. This is always a unit that students really enjoy!
At the end of the day and during Quiet time students have REALLY enjoyed taking apart old electronics that no longer work. They've learned the difference between a phillips head and flat head screwdriver and how to use levers to take them apart. Right now we're working on a vcr (which most had never seen!!), a few calculators, an old mac and a clock. With literally all hands on deck even when it's a choice project, we could really use a few more old electronics. Students want a television most! Thanks in advance for your donations!
I hope you have a great rest of your week,
Best,
Ms.Claytor
