ELAC Parent Workshop & ELPAC testing information
ELAC & Newcomer Parent Workshop
Hello Parents! We are pleased to welcome you to our February ELAC. Lunch and childcare will be provided. ELAC, English Language Advisory Council, is a collection of staff and parents of English learners that meet to support the needs of our students.
This month, as promised, we are hosting a parent workshop that will address the challenges of raising students after the pandemic.
Our psychologist, counselors, and administrators will be leading the workshop and we need you to be a valuable member of our team.
Join us on Friday, February 25th at 12:20 pm in the Newhall Cafeteria.
Hope to see you then,
Mrs. Stroh & Ms. Tapia
ELPAC, Your Student's Annual Measurement for Language Acquisition English Language Proficiency Assessment for California
Each year, English Language learners are assessed in their language proficiency. This assessment is a useful tool that helps our teachers guide instruction the following year. The results also provide practical tools for parents and families to support language acquisition at home.
The testing window begins this week for grades 3-6. Please make EVERY effort to have your student at school and on time. A healthy breakfast is offered in our cafeteria every day beginning at 7:45 a.m.
In addition to providing useful data, the ELPAC allows our students the opportunity to demonstrate what they know. They should feel proud and confident of their successes and we want each student to have a positive experience. So be sure to have a good night's sleep, read at home, complete Dreambox lessons, and review classwork and homework each day.
If you want more information please click this link and feel free to call Mrs. Stroh at 661-291-4013.
Early Pick -ups
We would like to kindly remind all parents of the early pick-up policy for our school. Below is a section of the Parent Handbook that explains it. We ask that you please make your self familiar with this procedure and help our office staff enforce it. You can read the entire Parent Handbook by clicking on the link below.
EARLY STUDENT SIGN-OUT
Children leaving school with parents for part of a day must be checked out in the office and then checked back in upon return. If children are to be picked up while school is in session the office will call for your child(ren) once you arrive at the office (not before).
If you need to pick up your child for any reason during school hours, you will need to come into the office, show identification, and sign out your child. Picture identification must be presented. The list of emergency contacts only allow us to release you child to them in case of an emergency, if you need a third party to pick up your child during school hours written notification needs to be sent to the office.
ABSENT MAKE-UP WORK PROCEDURES
If your child is absent and you would like to request make up work for him/her for that day, please call the Front Office and submit a request by 9:30 a.m. All absent make up work can be picked up after school in the front office.
At dismissal time each day students must depart campus. Please make all after school care and transportation arrangements with your children before school each day. Students must be picked up on time. The office does not provide childcare. Students will not be allowed to be pulled out of class the last 20 minutes of the school day.
