October 2021

October is my favorite month of the year! We have our home-to-school-to-home routine down and the weather is fabulous with the warm sunshine during the day leading up to cool evenings and chilly mornings. The only thing that I do not like is Daylight Savings Time when we have to "fall back" and the darkness arrives early in the day. I enjoy my evening walks with the dogs and we will have to get those in right after school because I do not like to be out with them in the dark. The 7th Reading Challenge was to finish a book in 3 weeks- lots of students came in to get their treat along with their name on the FINISHER wall. I just spent a couple of days with 8th grade ELA talking about digital citizenship, new books, older favorite titles, and scary books. We are starting the 2nd quarter of the year and the countdown to the holidays is on! I hope you are finding something that you like to read and exploring new genres.

Quote of the Month

“That’s the thing about books. They let you travel without moving your feet.” – Jhumpa Lahiri in The Namesake

Fascinating Facts about Libraries.

The word 'Library' is derived from the Latin word 'Liber' which means “book”. Meanwhile, according to the 'Latinized Greek word, bibliotheca, is the origin of the word for library in German, Russian, and the Romance languages'.

(The first 10 students that come in and let me know that you read this fascinating fact gets a sweet treat!)

3D Printer

The 3D printer has been running non-stop making items for students. I have enjoyed seeing the requests coming in and the students excited about their items. The image below is just a small number of the items that have been created. If you are interested in an item from the 3D printer, please fill out the Google Form and I will do my best to get something made for you!
