The History and Facts of the Piedmont

  • Between the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Upper Coastal Plain is the Piedmont Region. It runs northeast-to-southwest and follows the fall line, separating it from the Coastal Plain.
  • Rocks in the Piedmont are frequently covered by decomposed rock called also known as the red clay of Georgia.
  • The original forests of the southern Piedmont consisted of oak and hickory trees.
  • Native American peoples moved into Georgia about ten thousand years ago.
  • Poultry and hog farms are important agricultural activities in the area.
