4-H ADVISOR APPRECIATION & ENRICHMENT NIGHT

All advisors should attend including: seasoned advisors (those with more than 5, 10, 20, even 30 years or more), advisors who’ve served several years, and all of those individuals “in the process” or planning to become advisors in 2020.
The evening will include:

- Enrollment Packets for 2020
- Some inspiration for the coming year
All advisors who register and attend will receive a useful token of appreciation for your service as an advisor along with enjoying a tasty dinner and a time of fellowship following the planned activities. Mark your calendar now!

Ohio 4-H Conference
The 2020 Ohio 4-H Conference is designed to bring together 4-H volunteers and teens (age 13 and older) from across the State of Ohio. The objective of this event is to learn together and from each other in order to improve our abilities to deliver the Ohio 4-H Program to its members. The educational selections offer something for everyone, and have the ability to satisfy every taste and need.

- The Franklin County 4-H Council graciously pays the registration fee for current Franklin County 4-H Advisors and teen members who register by the deadline.

APPLICATION PROCESS
- To apply for a Franklin County 4-H Trip Scholarship, complete the Ohio 4-H Achievement Record Application and submit it to the Franklin County Extension Office no later than January 22, 2020.

Franklin County 4-H Camp: June 17-21, 2020 (Wednesday-Sunday)
Franklin County Fair: July 18-25, 2020
- To apply for a Franklin County 4-H Trip Scholarship, complete the Ohio 4-H Achievement Record Application and submit it to the Franklin County Extension Office no later than January 22, 2020.
STATE ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS
These 27 awards recognize a 4-H member's achievement in a specific area. Areas include: Beef, CARTEENS, Citizenship & Community Service, Clothing & Textiles, Communication, Companion Animals, Creative Arts, Dairy, Environmental Sciences, Family Life & Child Development, Foods & Nutrition, Gardening & Horticulture, Goats, Health & Safety, Horse, Llama, Leadership, Mechanical & Engineering Sciences, Personal Development, Photography, Poultry, Rabbits, Sheep, Shooting Sports, Swine, Veterinary Science, and Woodworking. Each achievement award winner will receive a trip to the National 4-H Congress and which is scheduled to be held in Atlanta, Georgia in late November 2020.
- To apply to be selected as the county nominee for a State Achievement Award and compete for the statewide award, complete the Ohio 4-H Achievement Record Application and submit it to the Franklin County Extension Office no later than January 22, 2020.

OTHER STATE AWARDS
State Junior Fair Board: SJFB is comprised of representatives from several different youth organizations in Ohio including 4-H Youth Development. State Junior Fair Board members help strengthen and coordinate State Fair activities in a fast-paced, action-packed month at the Ohio State Fair. Junior Fair Board members are expected to attend meetings and stay at the fair for the entire 12 days.
- To apply for this opportunity, members need to complete a State 4-H Achievement Record and submit it to the Franklin County Extension Office no later than January 22, 2020.

OTA Local Government Award: Two $1,500 awards are available to any 4-H high school senior who has completed a local government-type activity that has had significant impact on the applicant's community, township or county.
- To apply for this opportunity, members need to complete a State 4-H Achievement Record Application and submit it to the Franklin County Extension Office no later than January 22, 2020.

New 4-H Volunteer Advisor Orientation
Volunteers help make 4-H possible and are an essential part of the overall program. More than 300,000 youth and adult volunteers participate in the Ohio 4-H program each year. 4-H volunteers have the opportunity to contribute their time, energies, talents, and knowledge to help develop youth in a positive, educational way. The Franklin County 4-H program is dependent on its incredible adult volunteers to reach the youth of our county. Each time a new volunteer gets involved with the 4-H program, the number of children that benefit from 4-H programs increases!
2020 Youth Poultry Clinic
The 2020 Youth Poultry Clinic will be held Saturday, April 18, at OSU ATI, Wooster. The postmark deadline for registration is Wednesday, April 1. The cost for the clinic is $25.00 for adults and $20.00 for youth. Registration material will be available soon at https://ohio4h.org/animalsciences/poultry/poultry-calendar-events.
Tentative topics are: Necropsy, Processing/Meats, Exhibition Poultry, Digestion/Nutrition, OPA/Careers, Youth Quality Assurance, Broilers A-Z, Laying Hens/Eggs, and a Question/Answer Corner.
Refreshments and lunch are included in the registration fee. Vendors will be present.
ExploreAG Camps
Ohio State Extension, Franklin County and the Ohio Farm Bureau Foundation are excited to announce the 2020 ExploreAg camps! ExploreAg is a unique FREE camp experience for high school freshmen, sophomores and juniors to explore various careers in agriculture.
Students will interact with and learn directly from teachers, scientists and researchers.
Subject areas include food science, precision agriculture, animal science, natural resources, management skills, technology, and agricultural business. In addition to the classroom experience, scholars will participate in field experiences that highlight cutting-edge research and meet industry partners to provide a glimpse of various careers in related fields. There will also be sessions focused on soft skills such as interviewing, resume building and public speaking to prepare participants for the workforce.
ExploreAg will be offering four camp sessions in 2020!
Session 1 : June 14-19 - Ohio State University Main Campus
Session 2 : June 21-26 - Ohio State University Main Campus
Session 3 : July 5-10 - Central State University
Session 4 : July 12-17 - Ohio State University - ATI campus
The ExploreAg camps are FREE to attend. Program costs covered include on-campus accommodations, meals, staffing, course supplies, program materials, and transportation. Supervision is provided at all times by faculty, staff, and program counselors who are current college students in related majors.
The deadline to apply is March 6, 2020 and applicants will be notified of admittance by March 20, 2020. Applicants will be asked to submit an application with one reference and a 1-3 minute video with the prompt: “please tell us about one agricultural career and why that interests you.” The application can be found at exploreag.org.
