COVID-19 procedures in MCPS
This following message was sent to our community and concerns a change in COVID-19 procedures in MCPS. Due to guidance from federal, state and local health partners contact tracing is no longer necessary in MCPS schools.

SVHS Boosters raises money for all Seneca Valley Clubs and Athletics. Join us for a virtual silent auction and invite all of your friends! All proceeds will go to the amazing students at Seneca Valley!
Please place your donation offer in the comments under the picture/item description of the item listed. Whoever has the highest offer at the time the event closes, will get to take home the designated item. The highest bidder will be contacted by Heather or Kathy and schedule how to receive the item(s) from Germantown, MD.
NOTE: Please ensure all bids are in full dollar amounts.

The SVHS Junior and Senior PTSA After Prom Fundraiser will begin on Thursday, April 28 at 7:00 PM EST and end on Monday, May 2 at 7:00 PM EST.
This fundraiser is 100% Online. 50% of the total fundraiser sales will go to the SVHS PTSA to cover the cost of the 2022 Junior and Senior After Prom event and other PTSA sponsored events for students and teachers.
Earners with the highest sales will win a prize!

REMINDER: Free, On-Demand Online/Virtual Tutoring Available for All Students, K-12
New Partnerships with FEV Tutor and Tutor Me Education
Beginning on January 25, 2022, all students will have access to free tutoring and 24/7 Homework Help to support success in their current courses/grade level, through two new approved tutoring providers, FEV Tutor and Tutor Me Education. As part of comprehensive strategies to mitigate learning disruption associated with the pandemic, all students will have access to these virtual tutoring services through their MCPS Google Account, using Clever. Some students will also be referred directly by their local school.

Several of our photo students entered the photography festival competition and show at the Nora School in Silver Spring. Schools from around the area entered work and from over 200 entries, several of ours won awards! The show was judged by a professional photographer.

NEW: SVHS Students Soar at ACT-SO Competition
Each year, high school students across the country start a journey to sharpen their skills through the Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics (ACT-SO). From visual arts and business to performing and culinary arts, participants work with community-based volunteers for a year to develop projects and performances. The experience culminates in local and national events where students compete for scholarships and other rewards.
This year, we are proud to announce that three of Seneca Valley's ACT-SO participants medaled and were recognized at the Awards Ceremony. Collectively they brought home 5 medals! See the pictures below for their competition categories. CONGRATULATIONS! #svproud

Attention Seniors! With May 1 being college signing day, we would like for you to share your post-HS plans with us! Starting next week, stop by the counseling office and add your information to our wall! If you plan on going to college, tell us where you have enrolled. If you are not going to college, feel free to share your after high school plans. These can be military, work, travel, or career plans. We would like to celebrate our SVHS Class of 2022!

May 02 - Taiwanese American Community Scholarship Award - awards of $1,000; open to all U.S. citizens or permanent residents, from all ethnic groups, who are college-bound high school graduating seniors; activities list or resume listing extracurricular or volunteer activities; photocopy of your highest SAT/ACT score; one letter of recommendation; transcript; essay of no more than 500 words reflecting on community service; brief biography of no more than 250 words; photo.
May 02 - Generation Hope Scholar Program - up to $2,400/year in scholarship funding, one-on-one mentoring, crisis assistance, mental health support, and more; this scholarship helps teen parents earn college degrees; must have been a teen parent (pregnant or expecting at 19 or younger), currently be 25 or younger, be attending/planning to attend college within 50 miles of DC, and be a US citizen, permanent legal resident, have DACA status, or any other immigration status that allows them to work legally and receive in-state tuition; submit an essay, transcript (doesn't have to be official), proof that they have submitted the FAFSA, and proof of ID (photo of their driver's license, school ID, etc); a virtual interview.
May 03 - Morton A. Gibson Memorial Scholarship - amount: $875 – $2500; senior; Jewish resident of the metropolitan Washington area; U.S. citizen or working towards citizenship; accepted into a four-year undergraduate program on a full-time basis; completed significant volunteer services within the local Jewish community (in addition to high school graduation service requirements).
May 03 - Max and Emmy Dreyfuss Jewish Undergraduate Scholarship - amount: $1,500 – $4,000; must be a first-generation college student; U.S. citizen or working towards citizenship; accepted into an accredited four-year undergraduate program on a full-time basis; NOTE: Cannot be used for community college or study abroad programs).
May 03 - JSSA Educational Scholarship - amount: $2,000 – $6,000; senior in a Montgomery County public high school; U.S. citizen or working towards citizenship; accepted into an accredited four-year undergraduate program, vocational school, or community college; NOTE: Recipients are eligible for 1-2 years of funding.
May 06 - Delegate Reznik Scholarship - senior; be a resident of District 39 (go to http://mdelect.net and follow the instructions to see which district you reside in); must have completed your FAFSA; planning to attend a PUBLIC college/university in Maryland in the fall, unless your major is deemed unique by MHEC (see application for more information); must take a minimum of 6 credits to be eligible; resume; transcript; answer the following prompt: In Maryland, you can drive at 16, vote at 18, join the military at 18, drink at 21, and rent a car at 25. Do you think these ages are fair? Why or why not?
May 06 - Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Scholarship - 6-$1,000 awards; senior; male student of color; will enroll and attend a college or university in the Fall of 2022; resume/activity Sheet; transcript; essay (answer no more than two of the prompts, 250-500 words each); guidance counselor signature.
May 06 - Rural Women’s Republican Club (RWRC) Scholarship - (deadline extended!) $3,500 award; senior; for students attending Seneca Valley, Poolesville, Damascus, Clarksburg, Quince Orchard, and Northwest High Schools; interested in pursuing a vocational, trade school, or certification program, including a certification from a community college during the 2022-2023 academic year; essay (500 words max); see application for example of trades and essay prompt.
May 07 - High Bridge Foundation Scholarship - 5-$2,000 & 7-$1,000 book awards; senior; for students who are facing and overcoming personal & family hardship conditions (including financial); min 3.0 GPA (those under may apply if they demonstrate academic progress given hardship conditions); attend a trade school, community college, four-year college and/or university full time in the fall; community service; leadership.
May 08 - #LeadingConEducación Scholarship Contest - 40 awards of $2,500 (scholarships or educational grants will be awarded in the form of a 529 saving plan gift card); grades 9-12; legal resident of the US/DC (or qualify under DACA); must be of Hispanic heritage; complete the TurboTax Tax Simulation modules and submit an essay.
May 10 - KYCF-GROCK Scholarship - senior; male student of color; min 2.5 GPA; accepted into a college or university as a full time student in the fall; active in extra-curricular or work related activities; essay; transcript; proof (letter) of acceptance to the college you will attend; 2 letters of recommendation; current photo.

Lead 'Em Up Virtual Session(s)
In support of the MCPS Out of School Time programs, Lead ‘Em Up is offering two free virtual leadership sessions. Join Adam Bradley, leadership coach, to prepare for leadership roles applied in school, athletics, and all other aspects of your personal and future professional life. Students will need access to Zoom using their school account and a journal or paper to write on.
Session 1: May 2, 2022 from 11:15 a.m.-12:30 p.m. "Learning How to Connect like a Champ" - you will develop the skill of connecting with others and tapping into the power of relationships.
Session 2: May 18, 2022 from 1:00 p.m.-2:15p.m. "Becoming a 5-Star Communicator" - you will learn the art of communication and how to elevate yourself using various communication strategies.

Learning Differences Virtual College Fair
This free fair will provide information that can assist students in post-secondary transition planning. We will host a safe and engaging forum for students and their families to explore the many available college options and learn from experts on how to make the most of the college experience. Attendees can explore college booths and chat live with admissions representatives. The site will be ADA and WCAG compliant. Attend one or more of the educational sessions being hosted by experts in their field. Get helpful information about navigating the virtual fair here.

MYP Personal Project update: We had one of our 10th grade MYP personal project workshops to help students complete their final project report on Thursday, April 28th morning during testing. The second workshop will be held on Wed., May 5th during periods 6, 7, and 8. Please encourage your student to attend if they have finished their project product!

- Students who completed their personal project will celebrate their success at the AMP music club with a maker-space art activity, catered lunch, ceremony, and concert by 4 professional artists who have worked with the students throughout the year.

Preparing for IB classes, the IB Diploma Program, or IB Career-related Program in 11th and 12th grade: If your student is interested in IB classes or an IB Program in 11th and 12th grade, please consider registering for Health A this summer! Taking Health A over the summer can open up space in a student’s schedule; providing an opportunity to take additional IB, career pathway, or elective courses. All grades must complete Health A; only 9th graders and incoming classes are required to complete the full credit of health. Only Health A is offered this summer and Health B will be offered in the Spring at Seneca. Please click HERE to register!
IB Exams: Exams started last Friday! Please review the information below and contact Ms. Ezerski at Natasha_L_Ezerski@mcpsmd.org with any questions/concerns.
- Please review the IB Testing Calendar with your student to ensure they arrive on time and to the correct location.
- All students must submit a Permission Slip for the IB Exam. Please have your student return it to their IB teacher, Ms. Ezerski in Room 1410, or the main office.
- Mrs. Becraft put together a wonderful Slide Show that reviews key items for the IB exams.
- To ensure your student's IB transcript is sent to the college/university they are attending, they must complete the University/College Request Form/IB Feedback
