The countries involved in World War 1 on the allies side was Britain, France, Russia, Italy, and the United States. On the other side was Germany, Austria-Hungary, Ottoman Empire, and Bulgaria.

Why did the U.S. join World War 1?

The U.S. joined World War 1, because Germany had offered to include Mexico on their side. To get them to come on to Germany's side, it would require Germany to give back Mexico land, they lost in the war. Which was also known as Texas territory. In addition, because they were angry, because Germany had sunken one of the U.S.'s submarines, and killed Americans.

How did Texas play an important role in the war?

Texas played an important role in the war because, Texas had military training facilities, all throughout it. They trained in Fort Worth, Waco, Houston, and San Antonio. Since World War 1 was the first war to use airplanes, Texas was also known for having an air force base, known as Kelly Air Force Base.

How did World War 1 end?

Germany had surrendered during World War 1, and all of the nations agreed to stop fighting. The war ended with a treaty between the nations to keep peace.

The Great Depression

Hebert Hoover

Herbert Hoover was the president of the United States, during the Great Depression. He thought that the Great Depression would blow over, and it wouldn't last very long. Hoover blamed the international economy and questionable business practices. He thought that the federal government shouldn't get involved with helping people find employment. He relied on state and local government, churches, charities, and individuals to help find relief.

How did Franklin D. Roosevelt pull the U.S. from The Great Depression?

President Roosevelt, pulled the U.S. out of The Great Depression by giving unemployed people jobs, relief for the poor, recovery of the economy, and economic reform to keep from causing anymore depressions. With the help of his vice president John Garner, together they created new agencies, called the "Alphabet Agencies." All of the things Roosevelt did came from these agencies, he created an agency to come up with new jobs for unemployed people, and many more to help the Great Depression.

What caused the Dust Bowl and how did it affect farmers in Texas?

The Dust Bowl was caused by high winds. The Dust Bowl brought droughts and high temperatures, which affected the farmers. The farmers couldn't farm, when there was no water and it was extremely hot.

Which New Deal programs were important to Texas?

Many of the farmers in Texas didn't have electricity. So, one of Roosevelt's New Deal programs was to let the farmer's borrow money to bring electricity to their area. Another program Roosevelt created was for the farmer's to practice other kinds of farming methods. The farmer's were sometimes paid money, to not harvest cotton and wheat the whole year. This was created in affect of the Dust Bowl.

How were tenant farmers and miners affected by the Great Depression?

Tenant farmers were affected by the Great Depression, because, in WW1 new mechanical machines had been made. Many more inventions were coming about. These machines made it easier to produce crops, so farmers fired the tenant farmers, because they didn't need them anymore. During the Great Depression, the miners working conditions were dangerous.There was constant hard labor and no protection from danger. The affects from the Great Depression for coal miners, was hard work and dangerous working conditions.

Tom Connally was an important person in the war, because he was the person that declared war against Japan. Another important person, was Franklin Roosevelt, because he was the president at the time of the war.

The countries on The Allies side was Great Britain, France, China, United States, and later the Soviet Union. The countries on the Axis Powers were Germany, Japan, and Italy.

How did Texas contribute to the nation’s military effort in fighting World War II?

Texans fought in World War 2, from the very beginning. Texans went to the recruitment center after Pearl Harbor. They had the most volunteers of any state. Even women were a part of the war, they mixed gun powder and took care of other things, while the men did the combat part of the war.

How did life changed for Texans on the home front during World War II?

They began practicing air raid drills, in case there was ever a threat. They also had limited amounts of food. Also, the speed limit was lowered to 35 to save gasoline. Train and bus use increased during the wartime.

How did WWII end?

Adolf Hitler, the German leader killed himself after the Allies had pushed in. The Germans then surrendered to The Allies soon after. Japan had still continued fighting, after the U.S. had dropped two atomic bombs on Japan, they finally surrendered. The war had left Europe and Asia in ruins.
