Students who come will…
- see a SHADOW show.
- participate in creating BOX for treasures.
- read and browse for books.
- participate in New Book Musical Chairs.
- participate in activities that will have you thinking OUT of the BOX.
- have the opportunity to get a library card.
- receive a homework pass!
Jump Rope for Heart on Friday, March 9
Jump Rope for Heart is just around the corner! We are excited to have so many students joining us.
A couple of VERY important reminders:
1. The event is being held Friday, March 9th AFTER school from 3:45 - 4:45 pm.
2. ANY student who plans to join must turn in the WHITE permission slip by this Friday, March 2nd.
3. Participants must come to school dressed appropriately in PE attire and SNEAKERS. Student safety is our number one concern.
4. Please plan to pick your student(s) up promptly at 4:45 pm.
Thank you all for supporting the students in their charitable work to raise money for the American Heart Association!

LES Yearbooks- Order through March 16
Paper order forms have already been sent home with all students. You may also order yearbooks online. To pay online, go to www.ybpay.lifetouch.com- school code: 11042518. If you need another paper order form, please notify Mrs. Little in the front office.
March is FCPS Youth Art Month
We are excited to announce that Austin D (K), Korbin B (2nd) and Rachel H (4th) have their artwork displayed in the exhibition at the Delaplaine Visual Arts Education Center all month long. Congrats to all three LES students!
Kindergarten and Pre-K Registration
FCPS Kindergarten and Pre-k registration begins Monday, March 19.
Enrollment packets will become available beginning March 19. Mrs. Little can assist you in this process Monday-Friday from 9 am to 3:30 pm.
To enter Kindergarten in the fall 2018, a child must turn five on or before September 1, 2018. All kindergarten classes are full-day programs.
Lewistown Elementary School is offering the opportunity for Lewistown four year olds to participate in our inclusive Pre-kindergarten classroom next school year. The inclusive classroom includes both students with an identified disability and typically developing peers. If you would like your child to participate as a typically developing peer, they must meet the following criteria:
1. The child but be four years old on or before September 1, 2018.
2. The child cannot have an identified special needs service (Child Find, speech, etc.)
3. Transportation must be provided by the family.
4. The child cannot be enrolled in another FCPS Pre-K program.
5. The child must reside in the Lewistown Elementary school district.
The class meets for five half days weekly, Monday through Friday. The class is taught by a certified teacher, with dual certification in special education and general education. For students who are accepted into the program, families must provide transportation.
Those registering will need the child’s:
- immunization record
- proof of birth date
- proof of residency.

PTA News
Your PTA is holding a lottery fundraiser for the month of April. During each day in April a $50 prize (in cash, gift certificates or product) will be awarded to the person with the ticket matching the Maryland Evening Pick 3 Lottery Number. The tickets will be $5 each. We are asking each family to sell at least 7 tickets.

Counselor News
Thurmont Middle School will be hosting a Cyber Safety Night on Monday, March 12 from 6-7 pm in the TMS Media Center.
Please come out and join us for important information and conversation about Cyber- Safety! Both parents and students are encouraged to attend! Bill Floria will be speaking on staying safe while online with phones, computers, tablets and gaming. He will also speak about privacy, safe practices and cyberbullying.

Charles E. Tressler Distinguished Teacher Award
Hood College presents this award annually to honor distinguished teaching in Frederick County's public school system. Named for a former member of the Hood faculty who encouraged young people to enter the profession of teaching, the Charles E. Tressler Distinguished Teacher Award recognizes an FCPS teacher who has had a significant impact on young people.
A screening committee of FCPS administrators and other staff will review the nominations and select a winner using a rubric evaluation system. The winner will be notified in May.
