Alternative Methods of Instruction
Student Learning Expectations for Grades 6-8
Background Information
General Information
- AMI days will be used as a review of items previously covered during seated instruction and no new material will be introduced.
- For each class that day, a short formative assessment will be required. These are not optional and will count as a grade.
- Students may complete work at anytime during the day and do not have to follow their daily schedule.
- Teachers will be working remotely as well and will be checking their email and Canvas and responding to messages at the following times (at a minimum): 8:00 am, 9:30 am, 11:00 am, 12:30 pm, 2:00 pm & 3:30 pm.
Not completing the assigned task(s) will result in a mandatory tutoring once we return to in-person learning.
Students will have the option to complete all AMI work either digitally or hard copy. They will not be required to do both.
Hard copies of the required work will be provided in advance to ALL students.
Option #1 (Digital)
Students should sign in to Canvas and check the Announcement page for each course prior to 9:00 am to review expectations from teachers.
Announcements will be labeled by the AMI Day and the Date (Ex: "AMI Day 1 1/2/23") within each class announcement tab.
Students may complete work on their time and submit their answers using the guidelines set forth by the teacher. This may include a short google form or submission through Canvas.
Option #2 (Hard Copy)
- All students will also be provided hard copies of the required work in advance. This will be sent home in early November and students should place it somewhere safe in the event that an AMI day is used.
- Students will receive a short review assignment for each of their core classes and their current specials (PE, Art, Music) class.
- No work will be required for the exploratory classes on AMI days.
- Students may complete this work at anytime during the AMI day and will be expected to turn it in on the next day of seated school.
