Welcome Back to School!

Greetings, Ridgeview United Families! We welcomed our students back to school Monday; it's been a great first week. Please see below for important information such as a calendar of events, announcements, and an update on what our students have been doing this week.

Upcoming Events

Here are some of our events at a glance. Please join us!

  • Aug. 17: Foundation Meeting, PTA General Meeting
  • Aug. 25: Title 1 Parent University
  • Sept. 5: Labor Day
  • Sept. 6: Remote Day for Students

Check out our calendar for more ways to get involved.

Beginning of the Year Documents To-Do List

  • Please log into your Infinite Campus Parent account to sign off that you’ve read and received the Student Code of Conduct.

  • Please log into your Infinite Campus Parent account to sign the district's student device (laptop) user agreement.

  • Student accident insurance information is linked below.

  • The notification of screening and referral for Gifted Services is linked below.

  • For 6th and 7th graders: If you have not already done so, please return your two proofs of residency to your homeroom teacher immediately. We ask for printed copies that are ours to keep.

Arrival and Dismissal Processes

For student safety as well as our staff supporting these processes, we ask for your support:

Arrival

  • No drop-offs prior to 8:30 a.m. Students may not be left unattended prior to our opening.
  • No drop-offs at the front doors. After 8:45, a parent should escort the student into the office for a tardy check-in. Bus riders are never tardy even if the bus is late.
  • The carpool lane operates 8:30 - 8:45 a.m. Do not let students out prior to 8:30 a.m.
  • Be ready as soon as you pull into carpool for your student to exit without assistance.
  • Pull all the way forward in the carpool line.

Dismissal

  • Walkers and bike riders need a permanent pass. Please contact the front office.
  • Students only ride their assigned bus unless a bus change note is approved in the office.
  • Carpoolers must be picked up in the lane. You may not meet your student in our parking lot, at the front doors, or elsewhere in the neighborhood.
  • The bus is an available alternative if you find the carpool line to be too lengthy.
  • In carpool, pull all the way forward, load quickly, and use the entire loading zone.

Have You Checked Out Our Teacher Videos Yet?

Big picture
If you missed Panther Peek, we invite you to help your student know their teachers and a little about them. Each teacher recorded a short 1-2 minute Flip video for you, and they can be accessed and viewed here. We also invite you to view or review our administration's Top 10 Things to Know to start the year video by clicking here.

Help Your Student Be Prepared

Please help us with a few items to make sure your student is ready for for a great year of school:

  • Know our new personal communication device policy: We’re widely sharing our new personal communication device (cell phone) policy in alignment with FCS’s push to remove these distractions from school. Students’ cell phones must be off and out of sight as they exit their car or bus for the duration of the school day until they leave campus. Starting next week, if a cell phone, ear buds, or other device is collected, it will be available to be picked up by a guardian only on the same day (first offense), after 3 days (second offense), or after 5 days (third offense).
  • Be at the bus stop at least 5 minutes early (and watch that Here Comes the Bus app that we encourage all families to have).
  • Or, arrive in carpool between 8:30 - 8:45. We don't allow parent walk-ups or walk-ins, so thanks for being ready to drop and go!
  • Be in proper uniform, and we thank parents for paying special attention to ensuring that for our boys and girls alike our shorts and skirts are finger-tip length.
  • Ensure your student knows the afternoon dismissal plan: knows their bus number (not bus animal) or knows to be picked up in carpool between 4:05-4:20 p.m.

Sports Physicals Deadline Extension!

Please note that we are extending the physical deadline for these sports only: boy’s volleyball, tennis, tumbling and basketball. The new deadline is Friday, Sept. 2. Forms and more information on fall sports can be found here.

Consider Joining PTA and Support RCMS Foundation

  • Parent Teacher Association: Consider joining PTA with a range of donation levels to suit all families. These donations fund teacher grants, classroom supplies, staff gifts and recognitions, and student treats and incentives throughout the year. Please join at www.ptarcms.org.
  • RCMS Foundation: Our amazing Foundation provides funding to our music and athletics programs. If your student participates in these hallmark programs, we need your support. Community partners are needed, too. Donate at https://rcmsfoundation.org.

iReady Reading & Math Diagnostics Next Week

i-Ready is an online Reading and Math program that helps us determine your child’s strengths & areas for growth, personalize their learning, and monitor their progress all year. Your homeroom teacher will e-mail information next week. Below is an English or Spanish parent overview video. Please encourage your child to do their best on Thursday and Friday.

What supports will be in place if your child performs below grade level?

  • Our ELA and Math teachers will respond with support in small groups in class.
  • We will engage your student in extended learning after school 4:15-5:15 p.m.
  • We will engage your student in additional time-on-task at designated Saturday Schools.
  • We will encourage your child to do more iReady lessons at home with your support.

We Need Gently Used Uniforms!

Our front office desperately needs your gently used RCMS logo t-shirts or plain polos as well as khaki pants and shorts. We need youth & adult sizes. We use these uniforms to help students who spill, rip their clothes, or don't have a uniform. Drop them by our front door any time!
