Quarter 2 Spokes
Another thing our students did was a type of sales pitch. We watched quite a bit of Shark Tank, yes to see the cool inventions people thought of, but also analyzing how entrepreneurs conducted sales pitches for their products. Our students followed suit when they thought of a career based product that they felt helped improve the community. Check out the pictures below to see them stand confidently, and pitch fearlessly to their peers!
Looking Forward...
First, they are going to consider all of the local businesses they visit to critique their impact on the community and their business model. Then they will ask themselves about how to balance making money and helping others. Informed by the career research they conducted this month, they will then create a plan and to-do list to start their own business! Check back at the end of the year to see what they come up with.
In Mrs. Bradley's Class
In Ms. Concepcion's Class
Her 6th grade classes are still reading William Kamkwamba's The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind, the true story of how William used Design Thinking (much like our Spokes classes) to confront the devastating effects of famine in his country, Malawi.
Her 7th grade classes are still reading Patient Zero by Marilee Peters, an all too timely book about the spread of diseases and the nature of epidemics. Students will get to think critically about how epidemics can affect society in more ways than just diseases, such as "social epidemics".
