Lions Park Paw Prints

Letter from the Principal

Dear Lions Park Families,

Thank you for your support of the Roar and Run! We had a fun morning led by Mr. Shaffer that included running, dancing, and demonstrating lots of school spirit! In addition to having an enjoyable morning, the PTO raised money that will be used to provide additional opportunities and activities for our students. As of 11:30 today, we had raised $25, 652!! We are so fortunate to be part of a school community that values and supports our school in so many ways. Special thanks to our PTO and the event chairs, Zhaleh Naghibzadeh and Mayte Costales. Zhale has chaired the event for five years. This will be her last year having a child and Lions Park, and we are grateful for all she has done over the past five years as the chair of this event.

We thank all of our families for sending their children to school each day wearing masks. We have noticed several disposable masks that are left behind on school grounds at dismissal. If your child is wearing a disposable mask, we appreciate you reminding them to bring them home and dispose of them properly.

We will begin SHIELD testing on Thursday, October 14th. This optional testing will test student saliva for COVID 19. We are hopeful this added layer of mitigation will help us continue to keep our students and staff safe. Our anticipated schedule is below. Please note that the schedule may evolve or change as students learn the routine and become more efficient. If you have not already opted your child out and wish to do so, please communicate directly with me. Students who are participating in SHIELD testing should not eat or drink one hour before testing. The times are scheduled in a way that eating shouldn't be an issue. Students will be told not to drink water the hour before their testing time. Teachers will not be able to enforce this because it won't apply to all students and they will be focused on teaching and learning. If students drink water within an hour of testing, they may not get a test result. We will monitor if this becomes an issue and make changes if needed.

As always, please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns.

Halloween at Lions Park

On Friday, October 29th, we will be having a Halloween Parade (outdoors and weather permitting) at 1:30 p.m., immediately followed by the classroom parties from 2:00-3:00 p.m. All parents are welcome to attend the parade, but only assigned room parents will be attending the parties. Students will have no food at the parties, so they will be masked during the entire party.

Students should not wear their costumes to school in the morning. For safety reasons, please use face paints instead of masks, and please remember, items like toy swords, guns, bats and other weapons MAY NOT be brought to school. If your child(ren) will be leaving the building during the lunch hour to prepare for this event, please complete the form at this link by 3pm on Wednesday, October 27th. Each class/grade level will be released from a specific door. More information will be shared when we know the number of students leaving. When students return at 12:50, they line up outside their morning entrance doors.

There is no need for students to go home to prepare. If students stay at school, time will be provided for them to put on their costumes.
