Proud to Be Your Principal
We so enjoyed yesterday's powwow, presented to us by the Lac du Fleambeau's Powwow Club. Here is an excerpt from the program, telling more about the powwow:
A powwow is like a family reunion, and the one concept central to the Ojibwe worldview is this: we are all related. For the Native Americans, a powwow is a social gathering; a time to greet old friends, replenish a sense of cultural identity, and show off achievements. For non-Indians, it's a window into a culture rich with nature-based spirituality and symbolic meaning. At all powwows, the dancing and music celebrate artistry, spirituality, and connection to ancestors, community, and family. Their culture has much to offer. And luckily, they're happy to share.
One of our 4 domains of the School Improvement plan is "Culture and Climate." We are proud to be working hard on supporting the nurturing learning environment here at MJ1. Our teachers, counselors, and staff work hard on supporting our scholars in both their academic and social growth.
A few highlights:
- Partnered with the human service center of Oneida County for resources in Responsive Classroom, Second Step, and Social Emotional curriculum.
- Implemented Morning Meeting in all grades to foster social and academic growth.
- Applied for & received multiple grants for supporting social emotional growth in our scholars (more to come!).
- Engaged our learners in a Pow Wow, which included many of our very own scholars.
Proud to be your principal,
Brent Johnson
At 8:30 am, the entire building will gather in the gymnasium to honor our veterans. Community members and visitors are welcome; please arrive early enough to sign in in the front office.

Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Children are encouraged to bring pillows and/or blankets for movie viewing. Popcorn is provided by the church, and families are welcome to bring their own food and non-alcoholic, family-friendly beverages. There is no charge for the movies or the popcorn! Donations are always welcome and appreciated. Just come and have a great time!
