Year 5 Weekly Update

Week 28
For those who couldn't make it, 5D announced the final profit made on market day. The grand total was $13,817.70 which was a fantastic achievement and will go to our charity, the Immanuel Kindergarten in Sudan.
A reminder, sports day will take place on Wednesday, April 22nd. Please remember to bring a packed lunch (Deli Fresh has been automatically cancelled), a hat, sunscreen, PE kit and a water bottle.

UOI - How the World Works
This week was the start of our new unit on energy.
Transdisciplinary Theme: How the World Works
Central Idea: Energy exits in different forms and is generated and used in different ways.
Lines of Inquiry:
Transformation and transference of energy
Renewable and non-renewable energy
- The ways in which we conserve energy
Concepts: Function and Connection
We began our unit with a special guest speaker informing the year 5's on the En-Trak system that we use to track our school electricity consumption. Ask your child(ren) to show you how to access this website through the Beacon.
Maths
Our summative assessment on fractions, decimals and percentages will be completed at the start of next week as we will be soon be revisiting the 4 operations within our flexible number groups.

Following on from our guest speaker presentation, we've asked the students to complete an energy conservation tracking chart of their own to see what actions they can take at home.
Please complete the chart with a description of how you didn't waste energy or used less of it. Keep track of how many times you've done this using a tally, and record the total amount at the end of the weekend. For those who were not at school on Friday afternoon, please access the homework sheet below:
