From the Principal's Desk...
Dear Parents,
Thank YOU for a fabulous Staff Appreciation Week. We enjoyed everything from the breakfast, massages, student notes, gift card raffles, and the Corner Baker lunch today! We would like to especially thank the parent committee who planned for this week: Shannon Cassell, Allison Singer, and Sarah Donlan. On behalf of the entire Central staff, I would like to say thank you for thinking of us! We are so lucky to work in such a supportive and generous community.
I would also like to thank everyone who participated in Sports Swap Day! This morning, students brought in gently used sporting equipment from home to the small gym. Then after school, students returned and selected a "new-to-you" item. Green Team members were available to help students check-in and check-out. We would like to thank all the student volunteers for this wonderful idea and for their time and energy to help make the swap successful. We would also like to thank the staff advisors, Mrs. Betty Dietrich and Ms. Joanna Potakis, for their time, guidance and support throughout the planning and execution of this event.
The Central School PTA is sponsoring an in-store book fair at The Book Stall today and tomorrow. 20% of the proceeds from sales (where the PTA is mentioned at check out) will benefit the PTA. The money from the fundraiser will be used for One Book/One Central and other enrichment activities for our students. Author Katherine Applegate (author of The Buffalo Storm, Roscoe Riley Rules, Animorphs, and The One and Only Ivan) will be there at 11:00AM on Saturday followed at 2:00PM by author Nicole Dreiske (author of Upside of Digital Devices). Children are welcome to come along for the fun! A few Central School Staff members will also be there to read books to children and to support the fundraising efforts. A special thanks for Linda Diekman for organizing the event. Please see below under "PTA Announcements" for more details.
Finally, I hope you all have a wonderful day honoring motherhood with your friends and family. Thank you to all the women who have helped shape our lives and nurture our minds.
Warmly,
- Becky

Activity Day
Activity Day is rapidly approaching. This year's event will take place on Friday, June 8, 2018. Our rain date is Monday, June 11, 2018.
We are making some changes to our Activity Day this year. We will have our regular station rotation set-up as usual in the morning and new mixed grade level activities in the afternoon. In order to make this day a success, we will need volunteers for the morning session only. P.M. Kindergarten is the only exception to this. We will need some P.M. Kindergarten volunteers for the afternoon.
More information is available on the Sign-Up Genius. Looking forward to a fantastic Activity Day!

Bus Registration Reminder From the District
This is a reminder that BUS REGISTRATION is open for next year, and must be completed by July 13th for your student to ride the bus on the first day of school. This cutoff allow us to develop the most efficient routes. Late registrations will be subject to a fee - $50 for a one-way and $100 for round trip. Students registering late will only be placed on existing routes and stops when space is available and may not begin to ride the bus until September 17th. Late registrations will be processed in the order they are received. If the bus routes cannot accommodate your child, you will either be placed on a wait list or receive a refund.
The EXPRESS BUS will be back! The express bus provides a direct route between: Central - Highcrest, Central - WJHS, McKenzie - HMS, and McKenzie - WJHS. This allows for the shortest possible ride to school, reduced congestion on the neighborhood streets, and more friends at the bus stop. After you have paid your transportation fee, you can place your child on an EXPRESS BUS route.
If you think you may have already handled bus registration, please check your REVTRAKaccount; sign in and click on MY ACCOUNT for your order history.
All of this information can be found on the BUS REGISTRATION PAGE on the District website under the “For Parents” tab: CLICK HERE.

New for 2018/2019… all District 39 schools (K-8) will use a new vendor, EduKit, for school supplies. Ordering runs from May 1st – May 18th. Watch for a Central School email with ordering information on May 1st. Questions? Email Colleen Himan HERE.
From the Nurse's Office
Call Central School "Safe Phone" For Absences: 847-512-6150
Please call the "SAFE" (absence) phone to report absences even if you let the classroom teacher know, because some teachers don't see the email/voicemail until later in the day. Teachers assume you are calling the office. It's important that the school nurse is directly aware of any absences otherwise, your son/daughter may be considered "missing." The school nurse keeps track of all school absences in the building. For safety reasons, we want to make sure all of our students are accounted for and safe.
