WE'RE ALL LEARNING
STUDENTS: 5 days off meant some kids started the week a little tired, but we quickly got in the groove. Lots of sunshine and warm recesses were sweet. Writing is something that we're always working on in every grade. Kindergartners are already writing words and sentences that are readable -- meaning the sounds that can be heard are represented with a corresponding letter. This is an important, early stage in writing development. We are so fortunate to live in a community that truly values writing. Look below for a fun writing opportunity for your child.
TEACHERS: On Thursday during our professional development time, we focused on math again with grade level teams planning for ways to incorporate using models (concrete objects, pictures, etc) to promote deeper math understanding.
ONE BOOK TWO BOOK Writing Festival
Students in grades 1 - 6 are invited to participate in the One Book Two Book writing festival which will be held in February. If your child is interested in submitting a writing piece, please use the link below for instructions. We hope to see many Penn students share their writing talents! The deadline is December 8.
PENN McTEACHERS Night at McDonalds
Join us for food, family, friends & fun on Tuesday, December 12th at the North Liberty McDonald's to support Penn Elementary School. We will be receiving 15% of all sales from 5:00-7:00, so come out and support your school and have a great time!
Focus on KINDNESS
Here are a couple of sample "kindness calendars" if you'd like to use one at home or even just for some kind ideas.
We still need about 30 parents ....
Our goal for conferences is that teachers meet with someone representing 100% of our students. So, if you haven't met with your child's teacher yet, please make plans to do so asap. This is very important and we'll work with you to make it possible. Call the office or email your child's teacher to set up a conference. Thank you for helping us reach our goal.
