Hello RHK8 Families,
I hope you're all enjoying a fantastic weekend! Our week culminated last night with the winter dance for middle school students. I want to extend a special "thank you" to our parents who helped decorate and chaperone for this fun event. Next week we're all looking forward to the Dance assembly, which is a highlight for our whole K-8 student community each year. Please remember, Monday is a non-student day when our teachers will be busy with grading. Here's the News for this week.
Work on the Track is Getting Underway!
A HUGE thank you to Jason Magalen and Mike Stetcher from Solmar Hydro for donating their time and resources to complete the survey work for our new track. They used a drone to capture all of the data and images. Super cool!! It’s RHS parents like Jason and community members like Mike donating their time to help our school that make RHS such an amazing place. Thank you!
Auction Art
The PTO's annual Auction fundraiser is on April 13, and a fun part of the Auction is the silent auction of the students’ collaborated class art piece.
We are looking for more volunteers to organize some of the grades. Unlike last year, we will be doing on art project per grade level rather than per class as years past.
As an auction art volunteer, you will need to plan an art project to be made by the students for the auction. You will need to schedule time in the classrooms for the hands-on portion. There is a small budget for supplies and Rachel Sanchez and I are happy to assist with brainstorming ideas.

¡Vaya Noticia!
Por el segundo año nuestra escuela ha recibido una beca generosa de la tienda 7-Eleven ubicada en 7170 SW Beaverton Hillsdale. El dinero se usará para apoyar a nuestras familias quienes no tienen acceso a computadoras en casa. ¡Muchas gracias a 7-Eleven!
Lice Information
Education and awareness are important to help reduce the spread and stigma of head lice. Below are samples of Newsletter articles.
Head lice is a common and often frustrating condition. It is not associated with a lack of cleanliness. Head lice don't care if your hair is clean or dirty. They don't care if you are young or old, rich or poor. Head lice are looking for a warm place to live and eat and any head with hair would be a great home. Head lice are very small gray or tan insects. They do not jump or fly. These insects lay eggs (nits), which attach to the hair shaft, close to the scalp. Nits are small, about the size of a grain of salt. They may be white, gray or tan in color. Although dandruff may resemble nits, dandruff can be easily removed. The nit is stuck on the hair shaft and needs to be pulled off to remove. Head lice should be suspected when there is intense itching of the scalp and the back of the neck. Head lice are usually spread by head to head contact when live lice are present. The school office has information about the specifics of head lice treatment.
The school would appreciate notification if your child gets head lice. This assists us in taking precautionary measures at school. All information is completely confidential.
There have been a few isolated cases of head lice reported to the school recently. Head lice is a common condition. It is not associated with a lack of cleanliness or any particular life style. No one is immune from head lice, but outbreaks most often occur in younger children. Head lice are very small, gray or tan insects. They lay eggs (nits), which attach to the hair shaft, close to the scalp. As hair grows, they move further from the scalp. Nits are small, about the size of a grain of salt. They may be white, gray or tan in color. Although dandruff may resemble eggs (nits), dandruff can easily be removed from the hair. The nit is firmly attached to the hair and is removed by gently pulling on it. Head lice should be suspected when there is intense itching of the scalp and the back of the neck.
The treatment for head lice consists of shampooing the hair with a head lice shampoo or applying a natural/alternative product that smothers the insect. Shampoos can be purchased at any pharmacy. There are several products on the market. The pharmacist or your family doctor may be of assistance in your choice of treatment. The school office has information about the specifics of head lice treatment.
As always, please let us know if you have questions or information to share. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
Sincerely,
Peter
