GSRP Special Student Showcase
Caliee, who is a GSRP student explained to her GSRP educator Miss Heather, that she wanted to dye her hair pink because her teacher Miss Elizabeth loves the color pink. At a recent GSRP meeting, Caliee was accompanied by her family to showcase a surprise. Caliee convinced her mother to help her change her hair color to pink to show her support of her teacher. Caliee's mother is so grateful to the GSRP staff that she made this request happen thanks to a box of hair color that washes out with shampoo. Pictured above you will see Caliee with her pink hair and a huge heart that has been inspired by caring GSRP staff.
Thank you to Catrina Wiskur, Aimee Phillips, and Katie Shantry for sharing their success stories!

21st Century Program Hosts Poetry Event
The 21st Century Community Learning Centers, Bridges to Success afterschool program spent the last few months focusing on poetry writing. Students and their parents were invited to participate in a culminating poetry event. Students chose their favorite piece of poetry from their writing portfolio and had the opportunity to perform for their parents and peers at a breakfast hosted at Blackstones Grill in downtown Flint on Saturday,
May 2, 2015.
Event special guests included Flint born musician and poet, Mama Sol, who performed personal poetry for families. It was an incredible event with so many parents and students excited about poetry. Staff and students were amazed by the touching poetry written and performed by the students. The students learned a lot about writing, poetry, and performing while building self confidence along the way.
The 21st Century Community Learning Centers program is an adaptive youth development model that reinforces the fundamentals learned during the school day by providing fun and creative learning experiences after school and during summer programs to students in grades K-12.
