Bellows News
In other news, the Math pilot taking place in two classrooms on each grade level will be moving into the second program in December: Reveal Math. They will implement a few units of study into the spring where we will shift to the final one: Eureka Math Squared. Families of students in the pilot classes (3SL, 3SM, 4SM/RP, 4JT, 5AE & 5PB) are encouraged to share their thoughts by emailing me at mscarantino@ryeneck.org.
Town Hall Meetings: November 30 & December 2
The next upcoming Town Hall Meetings with students will focus on the Responsive Meta-Moment and how to use the "Pause, Reframe & Positive-Self Talk" strategies at the moment we are overcome by a strong feeling. We will also be engaging in a discussion related to Digital Citizenship & Social Media Etiquette. Lastly, we will look at one of the "5 Be's at Bellows", Be Mindful with a breathing exercise. Resources for families will be shared in my weekly bulletin on Friday, December 2.

Shadows Everywhere!
The FEB All-Star Circus!
We are having our annual “rapid dismissal” drill on Wednesday, November 23rd. The idea behind the procedure is to practice evacuating the schools as quickly as possible in a controlled situation. This means all families, students and staff are asked to leave the premises directly at dismissal. The playground will also be off limits that day after school.
F.E. Bellows will be dismissed at 11:30 AM on 11/23, and we will see everyone back in school on Monday, 11/28 following Thanksgiving recess.
Important Reminders
The safety of all our RN community members is important, but none more than your children's. We ask you to please keep these guidelines at the top of your list when it comes to traveling down Carroll Avenue during arrival & dismissal.
1) Please only allow your children out of the car on the sidewalk side of the street. Cars are passing down Carroll Avenue and we should be mindful that they are safest exiting a vehicle away from ongoing traffic.
2) When driving down Carroll Avenue, you should be going no more than 10 miles an hour when passing other vehicles. 15 is the speed limit, but 10 is even safer. This isn't a suggestion, it is the law!
3) Never let a child out of your vehicle in the middle of the street. First, you are putting your child in harm's way from vehicles in the drop-off lane and second, you are stopping oncoming traffic and could get hit from behind.
December 8: Report Cards: Portal Only
Prior to the start of the school year, DW & FEB shared with families that we would discontinue printed report cards and move to using the Parent Portal in eSchool. If you have not set up your account, and/or have questions, please visit the Parent Portal Information page on the district website which includes step-by-step instructions. There will be no paper report cards sent home; they will go live in the portal on Thursday, December 8th after 3:00 pm.
SORA by Overdrive
By now, during library class, all students have logged in, bookmarked, and used SORA by Overdrive on their Chromebooks. We are happy to share information on what SORA is, how to use it, and additionally how to download the SORA app if desired.
School Start Time: 8:35 AM
A gentle reminder that the school bell rings at FEB at 8:35 am with students being marked tardy or late at 8:45 am. Please plan for your child to arrive between 8:30 and 8:35 am each day to avoid lateness to school.
If a student is absent or arriving late, email School Nurse Kim Barth. If a student is leaving early, email the teacher and be sure to copy someone in the Main Office as teachers are not always able to check their email during the school day.
Important Note: Starting the week of November 28, the "BBB" will now be a weekly bulletin shared each Friday afternoon starting on Friday, December 2. I am finding that items come up in the middle of the week that should be shared in a bulletin. I am hoping this will improve communication moving forward.
