STARS Awards given to nearly 50 students
The Elizabeth Education Foundation presented the 2022 STARS Awards at a dessert banquet Saturday, April 2, at Elizabeth High School.
The STARS awards (Students Taking Accountability and Responsibility Seriously) are given to students nominated by their teachers for modeling responsible behavior, making good choices, spending time involved with clubs and organizations in school and the community, and being committed to learning, caring and helping their fellow students and school.
The EEF is a self-funded organization. Income is generated by encouraging neighbors to shop with participating business that donate a portion of sales to EEF as a designated charity. In addition, support can be given by participating in monthly fundraising events and donating directly to the foundation.
More information on EEF can be found at elizabethef.org, by emailing ElizabethEducationFoundation@outlook.com or calling 303-646-6761.

Red Ribbon Week culminates with simulated crash
EHS ended the day today with a Red Ribbon assembly which included a presentation from State Trooper Natalie Zalewski about safe driving – not only avoiding driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, but also not texting or speeding. She implored them to be smart and careful drivers, especially with prom just a week away.
After Trooper Zalewski’s presentation, the student body went out to the south parking lot, where a simulated wreck was staged, with student actors playing the parts of crash victims. The Elizabeth Fire and Police Departments dispatched trucks and ambulances. Firefighters used the jaws of life to extricate the victims and loaded one into an ambulance and another onto an AirLife helicopter. The student who was portraying the part of the latter victim, foreign exchange student Angelina Piro, was briefly flown away to complete the simulation.
