LIS Update 11/18/2019
AASL Convention Thoughts
While on a break from my duties in the ALA Public Programs both at the AASL Convention, I was able to attend an amazing session on Building Inclusive Libraries lead by Julie Stivers (@BespokeLib). We will be thinking about the inclusiveness of our libraries during our January meeting.
Spanish Language Books
Also while at the AASL Conference, I spoke with three publishers about their increasing footprint in the publishing arena of books in languages other than English.
- iPG - Has Spanish books for all ages. Includes both independent authors and popular books translated into Spanish. I have a catalog that I can send you and/or bring to the Jan. meeting.
- Penguin Random House - Has both fiction and non-fiction, children's and young adult titles in Spanish. Most of the titles look to be popular books translated into Spanish. Interested? Sign up for their newsletter vintageespanol@prh.com
- Penworthy - Started publishing popular books translated into 10 different languages last spring. Includes Arabic, Spanish, Chinese, Vietnamese and more. Penworthy also started a sale today with titles as low as $3 each. They are an approved vendor and can be reached at Info@penworthy.com.
You Can Do The Cube
You Can Do The Cube has a special. With the code AASL19 there is no cost to borrow and return the set of Rubik's Cubes through the Rubik's Lending Program.

Congratulations!
Congratulations to Sharyl Renner, Owens LIS, for being named the Chairperson of the Education Improvement Council for Alief ISD. The EIC is integral in the decision making process in Alief ISD and it is great that we have a voice in these discussions.
