What is new?

We have few short weeks coming up. This week there is no school on Friday due to teacher PD day and no school on the 15th for Presidents Day. This month is already flying by for sure. I am hoping it brings some warmer temperatures soon. Thursday is our Valentines Party. Students are asked to bring in his/her valentines and box/bag by the 9th.

NEHS is starting a Crayola Color Recycle where kids can bring in old markers/dry erase markers that no longer work to school this week. They will them be used to recycle to clean fuel.

This week something will be coming home soon about Take Your Family to School week.

We are excited to invite families to join their child for breakfast at Bell Prairie. During this event families will have the opportunity to order a breakfast from the café and enjoy complimentary a donut and coffee. After eating breakfast families will have the opportunity to read together, celebrate the students latest writing and peruse through the beautiful artwork displayed in the hallway! Classrooms and the teaching wings will not be open for visitors.

In order to have a successful week, we are asking:

  • Students have no more than 2 adult visitors- you will not need to

check in at the office as this is a before school event

    - Please park in the playground and enter through the doors closest to the playground. Visitors leave when the bell rings at 9:00! Visit on your child’s scheduled day or on the morning they will perform.

and all 5th grade String students
- Wednesday, Feb 17th Last Names F-L

and Windsong Choir will perform

Another note to date: In PE class your child will be getting a Jump Rope for Heart envelope. This is our annual fundraiser for the American Heart Association. Our goal for this year is to raise $1500 for a great cause!! Everything you need to know will be explained on the fundraiser envelope. There will not be an after school event to attend, but instead our PE classes will jump rope during class as our way of celebrating Jump Rope for Heart month. Any money raised should be brought to Coach Coy by Friday, March 18th. That is the last day of school before spring break.

What we learned!

Readers Workshop-We looked at key details a different way in our informational text. In literature/fiction key details are the clues that help us unlock our understandings of the major event. In Informational it is our understanding of what we learned from the text, whether it be from the text or illustrations.

Writers Workshop-We are on our last week of our How To books. We will be celebrating these during our Author Celebration Thursday. This week we are working not the editing portion trying to check off what we need in our writings.

Math Workshop-We introduced 3D shapes and worked with decomposing teen numbers again.
