GHS Assessment Squad
Every Wednesday, GHS HOSA holds a Unity class called "Waves Anatomy" averaging 30-40 students weekly. During this time, students practice hands-on healthcare activities such as inserting IVs, assessment skills, and other career activities. We also support community service activities such as Trunk or Treat with the special needs students in Sumner County as well as visiting the nursing homes.
One of our biggest activities is working with the Sumner County Board of Education's Wellness Department. State law requires that all students in a wellness class be screened for hearing, vision, BMI and blood pressure stats. Our students perform these screenings for most of Sumner County. We have visited several elementary, middle, and high schools this year. Very few high school students get such hands-on training in the healthcare industry. This will truly set our students ahead of the pack when it comes to applying for very competitive postsecondary opportunities.
