Principal's Message
Dear Oak Hills Families,
We have great news! We will be hiring an Assistant Principal for Oak Hills. You may be wondering why we would need another administrator. Our district determines a need for an Assistant Principal based on the number of teachers we supervise. Currently, besides all the other pieces of running the building, I supervise 63 staff members, 37 of whom are certified teachers and specialists. In order to coach and mentor correctly, I am required to do numerous observations and feedback sessions for each teacher based on the evaluation standards of the district. I am thrilled my teachers will receive the support and guidance they seek with an additional person who is authorized to do the evaluation and supervision. Additionally, I am looking forward to a different level of support we can provide for school initiatives and to our students. I am in the process of interviewing candidates this week, and I hope to announce the name of our Assistant Principal in the next few weeks. Stay tuned.
On another matter, Smarter Balanced testing will happen for 3rd, 4th, and 5th Grade students during the month of May. We are testing later than in previous years as we wanted to make sure we had adequate time to deliver content and because we are testing in the classrooms thereby no longer requiring the need of a coordinated testing schedule. We ask parents to make sure your child is well rested and has a good breakfast every morning. Please also bring your students on time as testing will generally happen in the morning. Additionally, please do not plan long trips during this time as we have a very short testing window to adhere to. Thank you for all your support on helping our student be successful with the SBAC test.
Thank you so much for the amazing STAFF APPRECIATION week. Every day has been a very special day. Thank you to our PTO for organizing it all. We are so blessed to be supported by an incredible parent group.
Enjoy your weekend.
Warm regards,
Sheila Baumgardner
Here are the opportunities we have open for the coming school year!
We are trying to set up each volunteer PTO position as a “Co” position so that everyone has “a buddy” and doesn’t have to feel like they are solely responsible for certain volunteer commitments. This helps when family, or work, needs to take priority - you always have someone to step in and help!
· • Communication – we are looking for someone who would like to help communicate in written form our events, activities, and overall information to our parent community as needed. This is through media such as Facebook, emails, or quick “e-blasts”. This can be done from home or on the go – you don’t have to be at every meeting as the other PTO members would collaborate with you on what needs to go out to our community!
· ·Volunteer Coordinator – this is another position that does not require you to be at every meeting. This position we are looking for someone who loves to be a leader! In this role communication with Teachers, school staff, and is vital! (along with communicating to the PTO when we have holes that need to be filled for upcoming volunteer opportunities). This role helps align our community volunteers to the needed opportunities within our school!
· ·Co- Secretary – Jen Cooper is our Secretary – she takes notes at all our meetings and then publishes them via email so we can post them for our community to review. Jen is wrapping up her 1st year, and is in need for someone to split meetings and note taking with her; learn the role as her two year term will be up in 2018/2019. Very low maintenance role!
· ·Co-Treasurer – If you like book keeping or checks and balances this is for you! Mandi Macaskill needs a Co Treasurer to be ready to fill her shoes in 2018/2019 ; collaborating and working with her over the coming 2017/2018 school year would be a breeze learning the ropes from her!
