Calendar Change

Due to the 4 days SJE was closed during the week of January 28th, we are moving the end of the 3rd quarter from Tuesday, March 12th to Friday, March 15th. Report cards will go home the week of March 18th.

End of School Year Information

The school board has passed a motion that the last day of school will be no later than May 31, 2019.

Due to the extreme winter weather we have had this year, the school board has approved a motion to implement unplanned e-learning (no back to back days though) to be used to make up school closure days that may occur between now and the end of the school year if the makeup days would put us past May 31st.

As of today, we have four school days to make up, which will make our last day of school on May 30th. That being said, if we have a school closure between now and the end of the school year, we will make up the day on May 31st. If we have more than one closure day, we will then implement an unplanned e-learning day.

Laundry Soap Fundraiser Starts Next Friday

Are you, or someone you know low or out of laundry detergent? Good news!

Next Thursday, Feb. 14th your child will be bringing home fundraiser information and sheet for laundry detergent and as well as several other products. This is the same fundraiser as we did last year. The profits from this fundraiser will help fund the $12,0000 need in our SGO account. If you are not aware, the SGO benefits on average almost 40 students every school year by reducing their tuition so their children can continue to receive a quality Christian education at SJE.

The order forms and money are due March 1st. The goal for the school is to sell 500 units which would give us about a $5,000 profit to go towards our SGO need.

The pickup date will be March 16th 8am to 12pm in the St. John gym. An update on delivery will be sent out after the order is submitted.

In the meantime, if you have any questions, please email Chris Springer at calanspringer@aol.com.

Active Shooter Drill

The faculty has been working on implementing Active shooter safety plan with the kids. To that end, the Flatrock campus will have their first practice drill on Tuesday, Feb 12th and Soest will have their practice drill on Thursday, Feb 14th,

Annual School Association Meeting Coming Soon

The annual school association meeting is coming up at the end of the month. It is scheduled for Sunday, February 24th at 2pm in the Soest gym. You, as school parents are encouraged to attend this meeting. It is here that we talk about and celebrate school events and inform, discuss and decide things for the upcoming new school year. This is a great time for parents to come, listen and learn. We hope to see you there!

All school closure days are now being added to the end of the school year AND become parent drive days as well. As of this newsletter, we have 4 days added (1/29, 1/30,1/31 and 2/1) to the end of the year. The last day is now May 30th barring any more closures. The calendar on the school website is up to date and will remain so with any more changes that may come.

SJE Kindness Week Coming

During the week of February 18th-22nd SJE students, faculty and staff will be focusing on kindness activities and lessons. The information will come from this kindness website. Teachers will be spending the next couple of weeks developing the lessons and activities for that week. The curriculum being used is secular however we are also going to intentionally weave in our faith perspective as well. More information will come as we get closer to that week.

Volunteering at SJE

Please note the info in bold below and see where you might be able to help/volunteer. If you have not yet volunteered this year, please consider doing so.

**Please note that your volunteer hours this year (18-19) will reduce or eliminate up to $400 of the tuition increase/student set for the 19-20 school year.***

The Lutheran SGO for SJE

It's that time again to have a conversation about our SGO. We have many families that have filled out applications requesting funds to assist with their school tuition. This is a great way to help them. It allows the donor to donate funds to the SGO and receive a 50% Indiana state tax credit. If your donation is large enough, you can carry it over up to 8 tax years. Our need this year as of now is $19,500.00, of which we already have about $7000.00. Please consider giving. There are so many ways to do so and more are coming in early 2019. Please visit the website for more info.
