Principal's Message: Family Partnership Days

Dear Hazelbrook Parents & Guardians,

Family Partnership Days provide time for parents, teachers and students to discuss academic progress and your child’s social-emotional development together. This fall conferences will occur on the evening of Monday, November 21st from 4:30pm to 7:30pm and Tuesday, November 22nd from 8:00am to 4:00pm. It is important that all parents attend with their students as they are equally important in building strong partnerships. There are no conferences or school on Wednesday, November 23rd.

Scheduling a conference provides you with an hour block of time to see teachers at your discretion. Please note that this block of time is not an appointment with a specific teacher. When you arrive you'll be able to meet with teachers when you see they are available. Scheduling an hour block of time helps us limit the number of parents at any given time making your wait time much less. Because of the high demand to meet with teachers, conferences with each teacher are limited to ten minutes.

To help us plan, please choose a timeframe that works best for your family by clicking on the Sign-Up Genius link here and complete this survey if transportation is needed, no later than Monday, November 14th.

We look forward to creating a strong partnership with parents, students and teachers!

Sincerely,

Lisa Dailey, Principal

Ben Burkhardt, Associate Principal

Jamie Voelker, Associate Principal

Atentamente,

Lisa Dailey, Directora

Ben Burkhardt, Director Asociado

Jamie Voelker, Directora Asociada

Attendance Frequently Asked Questions

These FAQ's can also be found on the Hazelbrook website.

  • What number is the attendance line?

503-431-5121

  • My student has an appointment and needs to leave early or arrive late. What should I do?

If a student must leave early you must come in and check in to the main office to sign out your student. No need to call ahead! Please expect a wait of 5 to 10 minutes to locate your student and to allow them to gather their belongings. Students may only be picked up by a legal parent/guardian, an emergency contact, or a previously approved pickup person.

If a student returns to school in the middle of the day, they must report to the main office to check in with the attendance secretary. If they were at an appointment, please call the attendance line to report the reason so that it may be excused (503-431-5121). At check-in, they will receive an admit slip to class. An adult does not need to come into the building with them.

  • Can I call ahead so my student will be ready and in the office when I arrive?

Unfortunately, no. We will not pull students out of class before their parent/guardian arrives. We would like to ensure that students are in their classes for the maximum amount of time possible and we don't have much waiting room in the main office. We suggest that parents/guardians arrive 5 to 10 minutes before the desired leave time so our office staff has time to locate the student and allow them to gather their belongings. You will need to come into the school to sign your student out. During that time, we will pull them out of class and send you on your way!

We will not send students out of the school without a parent/guardian present. This is a safety issue and it is our responsibility to release student into the appropriate adult's care.

  • What happens if my student feels sick during school?

Students must go to the health room in the main office if they are not feeling well. Your student will ask their teacher for a pass and come to the health room where the school nurse or office staff will assist them.

Please encourage your student to let an adult know that they are not feeling well so our nurse or health assistant can assess and help them feel better. We will give you a call if they need to be picked up.

If the student needs to go home, they must be signed out by a parent/guardian in the main office for safety reasons.

  • I reported my student's absence, but I still received a call stating that my student was absent.

This probably means that our attendance secretary was overloaded with calls in the morning. They will get to the calls and fix the absences by the end of the day.
