Pratt's Primary Corner
Weekly Update- December 7, 2018
Week at a Glance
Math- This week we continued Unit 3 with rounding, multi digit addition and multi digit subtraction. The best way to practice these skills would be to have students write their own story problems, practice rounding to the nearest ten or hundred to add and subtract, and giving them equations to solve.
Computer Science/Science/Social Studies- This week was Computer Science Education week. We were able to chat with a computer scientist from Google and try a new Scratch coding activity. Students also received headphones from Google.
Writing- This week students were introduced to writers' notebooks. They will have the opportunity to decorate these and personalize them on Monday. We will begin our narratives in these notebooks.
Homework this week will be to continue working on the Family Traditions project

Students are learning that computer science is everywhere and it's not just coding- it's a way of thinking and problem solving. I've included a graphic from some of the professional development I've done that dispels some of the misconceptions people have about what computer science is.
