#INthistogether!
As we adjust to our new normal of living with COVID-19, it is important to acknowledge that we are all grieving. Not being able to finish the school year in-person is a great loss. Being isolated and away from friends and family is hard. It is healthy and necessary to process the feelings that arise from this grief. Name your feelings and do not push them aside. Remember, it is okay to not feel okay. It is also critical to do your part in managing your mental wellness and move toward acceptance of this new normal. Educators are such an important part of our community. We care about you and remember we are #INthistogether! To access this resource click here

School Nurses
A message From Jolene Bracale
Thank you again for all that you are doing to keep your students, staff, and community healthy during these unprecedented times. As we end this school year, please remember to submit your School Health Report as every state accredited school must submit a Report. This Report includes data regarding your student’s vision and hearing screenings, as well as immunization status. Should you have any questions regarding this Report, please contact Cheryl Coffey at ccoffey@doe.in.gov.
Additionally, please monitor your email over the summer as guidance materials regarding the school re-entry process will be shared as they become available. School nurses will play an integral role in this process, so please stay connected with your school administrator and local health department.
We hope that all of you have a safe and healthy summer.

Chronic Absenteeism
Key Concepts for Leveraging Chronic Absence During the Coronavirus Pandemic
Although chronic absence is being waived as an accountability metric in response to the corona virus pandemic, monitoring when students miss too much school is more essential than ever. Broadly defined, chronic absence measures when students miss so much school they begin to fall behind, and indicates that they need additional engagement and support. Monitoring when students miss opportunities to learn – whether offered in person or remotely – is an invaluable tool for strengthening the efforts of educators, community partners and families to reduce the adverse impact of this pandemic on the country’s more than 55 million school children.
Attendance Works has developed a multi-phase framework to assist educators and their partners to think strategically about supporting students and families from now through the time schools reopen. Most states and districts are now in the midst of Phase 2, Outreach After School Closure, or are entering Phase 3, Support and Engagement During Closure. How well schools connect with students and families during these two phases will significantly affect their readiness for Phase 4, Transition back to School.
